Hey i just stumbled on this site while looking for the reason why you never see amps behind Geddy Lee! I've seen Alembic basses but never actually had a chance to play one. Someday soon i hope to own one!! Great site!!

Welcome!
I think we all share your feelings towards Alembic.
Personally I can't wait to own an Elan 5

Geddy has ascended into that enlightened state where he only needs commercial washers and dryers in his backline to get that prodigious tone of his.  Now, is the secret to his tone All-
Temperature Cheer or some detergent from the Great White North unknown to us here in The States?

Oh yes, EVERYBODY oughta have an Elan Five (with P/J Activators in some suitably cool color tint . . .).

Dear tophereagle,

If you look in the Factory to Custom section you will see the bass of my dreams. I have wanted one of these for over 20 years. I have been blessed with the opportunity to get one and it is about to arrive.

Please stick around in this forum and you will find the most awesome, friendly, helpful and loving people anywhere and from everywhere around the world.

They will lead you through ordering or just answer any questions you have until the final day when it comes to ordering one.

But I'll tell you this, you will never hear another bass on this earth that sounds like an Alembic.

Aloha brother or sister and welcome home.

Hi Chris, welcome! When you eventually see, feel and hear an Alembic you will be amazed that anyone could ever settle for less

There are many Rush and Geddy fans here as well, so welcome aboard from a Alembic/Rush fan in frozen Scotland!

I was reminded what a great tone Geddy has when I recently bought the Moving Pictures album on CD. It was the first time I'd heard the album since I listened to it in the early 80's on tape.

Did you ever find out why you never see amps behind Geddy lee then?

Hey, Chris, Welcome to our little neighborhood! If my failing, feeble memory serves me correctly, Geddy now runs direct to the board, using a SansAmp RPM preamp, Avalon U5 Direct box, and a Palmer PDI-05 Speaker Emulator. The washers and dryers are just to remind him what is was like to carry those 810SVT cabs and heads back in the day before they had roadies!!

Geddys tone on the moving pictures album was very distinctive. He used the 72 jazz bass that he found in a pawn shop on this album in preference to his usual choice of Ricky 4001. Geddy then used a touch of distortion on his sound and it worked very well! To many Rush fans this was the bands most definitive studio work ever with tracks like Tom sawywer, red barchetta, limelight and yyz this was an absolute classic recording for rock bass fans!
