I'm just in receipt of a Markbass 2X10 combo -- I had to give in. It sounds good, but I'm also in the position of maybe sending it back. It's an as new used one. Here's the problems:

The gain knob crackles when you turn it up; only until about 12 o'clock, and only when you're making sound anyway. Turning it up without playing, it's silent.

There looks like there's some sort of silver line, maybe two or three inches long, along the edge of one of the speakers. I can't tell if it's cracked or not. It doesn't sound like it.

Advice?

hb3, have you ever tried any of the GK Micro Bass series gear? I have an old 200MB Combo , and a MB150E Combo for small to mid size gigs , they are light weight and I like the sound. Great for Coffee type house gigs .

I'll give those a whirl as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I think it's gonna be hard for me to give up the giant stack...I think that Aguilar/Bag End combo IS my sound...the Markbass sounded good, but it just wasn't the same. Also, I think it sounded better for regular bass than piccolo bass. It's virtual emulation knobs in particular worked well for typical bass frequencies.

Lol! Hey, thanks. I think Pound for Pound remains my favorite lyrics -- written at the peak of the American real estate boom. Doggyville is from the same period.

My drummer went back to Austria after the economic crash. I've been doing solo gigs, but looking for a way to get a great sound w/o lugging 200-300 pounds of amp around.
