Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix AZ
« on: December 23, 2010, 09:34:47 PM »
Spent all afternoon at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix AZ

Very cool. Admission comes with audio headsets that allow you to hear examples from all over the world. Big Fender exhibit. John Lennon's Steinway Upright and Eric Clapton's Brownie Stratocaster were there as well.

I get the sense the museum is still blossoming, having recently opened in April 2010, but it was definitely worth the time and admission.

The most important impression I was left with was that the lions' share of music in the world is enthusiastically created with extremely humble instruments.

A few more pix on my  FaceBook Album for those interested including one of the contrabass viol recently discussed here.

Haven't been there, but the Experience Music Project museum in Seattle is very cool.  They have quite a bit of Hendrix memorabilia and, as a bonus, it shares its futuristic digs with the Science Fiction Museum.  Klaatu Barada Nikto!
