Custom Fretless Steinberger with wood top

I'm having my dream bass built by Alembic and am thinking of selling this bass to help fund it. This started life as a regular, fretted Steinberger. Not sure of the year, but it believe it's mid 90's.  I had Matt Hill (who was the bass tech at Bass Northwest) pull the frets, make a wood top, and add a Bartolini pickup. I believe the electronics are Agular active bass boost and cut and treble boost and cut. When you pull the volume knob up it goes into passive mode. I had the wood top put on in an attempt to warm up the tone and give it a hybrid look of high tech and antique violin. The wood is spalted maple.  It's an AMAZING sounding bass... lots of punch and growl. As you would expect from a graphite instrument it is a very even playing and sounding bass.  I'm not sure how to price it, as it is a very unique bass. Obviously not stock any more, but it's very special!  I hate to sell it as It's my only fretless bass, and very dear to me, but hopefully it can go to a good home and help me with my current Alembic dream. I'll put a price of $1800, but I would consider a trade for Series II electronics. I'm open to offers and discussion. Thanks for your interest.

Oh, for those that have not played a Steinberger, I know they look very odd and have some negative 80's connections but really, they are great playing instruments. Amazing sustain (insert Spinal Tap quote here) and perfect balance.
