I am old and sodded, and this bass has not been played for more than an hour in the last two+ years.  I would never sell this bass without several good reasons, and unfortunately, several have become apparent.  It is actually listed in my will going to an old friend in Chicago, but thanks to corporate sharks and most recently Obama Care (Covered California - Where for every dollar I take out of my 401K I lose $1.04 on increased premiums, taxes, etc., making ends meet), it seems this will not be a viable option.  Life ain't easy, nor fair, so . . .
 
Anyway, my time as custodian of this fine instrument is coming to a close.  If you saw the ebony bass I have being worked over by Mica and the gang, not an ounce (Sorry, too drugged up to do metrics here) of pity would anyone send my way.  It is a beauty and will not be sold even if I have to drag it around in my Raley's shopping cart wondering with the herd of other homeless beings here in sunny Chico, California.  That will probably be my only remaining bass, after all the chips have fallen over the matters that have popped up in the last year.

Got some e-mails on this already.  The bass is a 34 scale, and price will be less than what I figure I can get for it on fleabay.  I am in no hurry to sell this bass and am still in the just getting used to the idea of selling it at all phase of the process, so price is a bit flexible at this time.  I actually bought this bass from a guy on eBay that let me make a deposit and then a couple of monthly payments on it till it was paid off and Christmas came.  Definitely worth both the wait and price paid.  If necessary, same could be done for the new custodian of this bass.  The later pictures on its post can be considered recent, as it has sit in its flight case since I pulled it out at that time to9 take pictures, a couple of years ago, when I lived in Magalia, CA.  Pictures of this bass are also on my Facebook account and the post of the bass I currently have being redone at the factory:

This bass is just a classic Alembic, plays beautifully, and looks beautiful as well.  It has no finish cracking, or hints of it.  If you want pictures of any particular part or have specific (Or general) questions concerning it or its power supply (Blue Box) and Alembic 5-pin cable (Not ones made by someone & bought off a third-party company/distributer), please click poor_nigel in the box to the left and get my e-mail address.  Do note that I ship things covered 360 degrees by 1 foam, covered in a layer of cardboard, cut on my table saw and put together with pricy Gorilla Tape, plus item packed with peanuts and newspaper between 'item and box'/'strings and fretboards' - etc.  Shipping and insurance will be paid up-front by buyer and will be for exact price of shipping/insurance, not for packing materials or my hours put into the endeavor.

Having bought a bass from Thomas last year, you can count on his comments on its condition and his packing. It took me quite a while to get to the bass through the foam, tape, peanut, etc, only to find out he had also carefully packed and protected the bass within its case as well. Extremely well packed. (Not that he needs any recommendations from me).

Thanks Jon and Toby.  I have ankylosing spondylitis (AS), a wonderful malady of the spine which deforms bones and screws up one's immune system, so hampering having surgery fix the problem.  The condition is a degenerative one, so it is never get better, always get worse.  I am very dumbed down from the meds I take, so it is a little irritating to get e-mails asking if the bass comes with power supply and cable, and other questions already listed, above.  The rheumatologists in this area are senile or quacks, and it costs me $600 out of pocket per visit to see someone in San Francisco, since I cannot drive far, so Sacramento to too far to drive.  $240 of that is taxi fees for from airport to hospital, to motel, to hospital to airport.  $60 a shot, not including tip.  So after getting down-sized out for the second time last year, after my boss said he would keep me for years, and all federal extensions for unemployment have been cut off (Just in time for me, of course), I have zero income and am living off cash savings I had hidden away.  I have a couple of hundred thousand in my 401K, but as stated above, for every dollar I pull out of it, I will loose it and four more cents in increased health insurance premiums and taxes owed for income.  I am close to the poster child for disability these days, and I expect SSDI to quit rejecting my claim and approve me sooner or later, which should provide me an above-poverty-line income of $15,900, which is close to the minimum for getting on Covered California, which is better insurance than MediCal/Medicaid.  One of my prescriptions costs $2,000 a month for an old drug that is not used enough to make a generic for, but I must have, or turn into a leper.  Boys and girls, never become a workaholic and just sit at your desk 65 to 85 hours a week.  Always get out and exercise daily, as it is too true that without your health, you have nothing!
 
I just woke up, so I am probably rambling . . .  Anyway, I am thinking around $6K to a club member is a good price for this bass.  I just saw a Series I go for $6,000 on eBay, and this bass is better than it is/was.

I think the price is fair, at least in my opinion.  
If I didn't have mine and the refurbishment project I would have most likely pulled the trigger.
I'm sorry to hear your situation, I hope you get things sorted out asap.

Tom,  really sorry to hear about your health issues.  A number of years ago we shared a bunch of emails about this bass.  I would love to revisit the idea of purchasing it, as you know, I really dig those Stars and  Omega.  Having recently retired and at the age I am at, it doesn't make any sense to revisit it. I hope the sale goes without hassle and I will keep your more important issues in my thoughts.

Thank you for the positive thoughts.  Sorry, I do tend to ramble on and on these days.  No need to worry about me these days.  Lots of people on the planet are far worse off than I am.  I have had a lot of good in my life. So I am fine.
 
To answer some of the e-mails received:
 
Asking price = $6,000
Comes with Calzone 1/2 flight case in near mint condition.
Alembic blue box power supply and Alembic 5-pin cable included.
Set of Elixir super light long scales is on the bass, and an extra new set is in the flight case, but of course.
An extra set of pick-ups will be included, as I prefer the etched ones over the gold embossed ones, and they all work perfectly.
Extra set of original knobs included, as they were replaced with ebony and gold ones custom made by David King - Which are tiny works of art, themselves.
Original strap buttons included, as they were replaced with Schaller chrome locking strap buttons, so a Greek Suede 4 strap is included, with the locking portion on it, as I prefer them over Moody straps.
Hardware is chrome plated.
This bass has been documented many times over the last ten years on this site - Though my account states I registered in 2009, I actually joined back in 2002, forgot my login stuff, so re-registered under poor_nigel back in 2004, sold all my stuff, and bought a bunch more around 2009 and again reregistered after closing the account.  Too much information?  Probably so, but I do ramble on these days.  Sorry.

Dear Nigel, I am writing you from Hungary Europe. I am sorry to read about your health problem. I am after my dream Alembic Series II but after reading your story here I realized we have something else also common apart from loving Alembics. I had a motocross accident and had a serious spine injury. After a long search I found a clinic here that is specialized solely on spine problems. Luckily the professor who operated me made an excellent job and saved me from getting paralized. After reading what amount you spending to get better I can offer you that I can get in touch with my doctor and asking him what sort of exoeriences they are having regarding your disease. One thing is for sure if they have you can get it a lot lot more cheaper. Let me know if you are interested. Best Laszlo

I have AS (immune system problem), so the normal cutting-edge spinal surgery is not an vbiable option, as what is naturally fusing my bones together, may stop the healing of the bone to stainless steel plates/rods, and may distort/deform the bones worked on, after the surgery and during the healing process - A year in a halo, with the possibility of a halo for life, I guess - NEVER!  I do thank you for the thought and consideration in my matter.  I wish you the best health in the future.
 
BTW - This bass is presently waiting on payment. I will post again when the deposit has cleared the bank and sale will be finalized then. So no more offers are currently being accepted on the S II.  Just FYI.
