Tree of Life S2 on Ebay with No Reserve
« on: May 18, 2005, 05:41:43 PM »
If memory serves, we were looking at this bass recently.  Schedua '76 S2 w/ Tree of Life inlay, electronics upgrade, etc.

It's just been listed on Ebay.  It's a 24 hour listing with a starting price of $500 and No Reserve!!!

This looks a little strange!!

This is Chris's bass.  First shown for sale ; and  is the recent thread.

Oh!!!  I finally see where in the listing it states:

This listing is restricted to pre-approved bidders or buyers only.  Email the seller to be placed on the pre-approved bidder/buyer list.

The e-mail of the seller is different from what Chris has listed on the Club. If anyone is intersted I'd check with Chris first.

It's a scam. It's got to be!!! The seller e-mailed me back requesting $850 for a Buy It Now price. He is in Germany. Auction proceeds to be escrowed in Romania:

FastAndSecure Escrow
Str.Pacii Bl.7 Sc.B Ap.4
Slatina, Olt 0500
Romania

I'll try to get this pulled from eBay. I've never requested this kind of thing before, so if anyone in the club has more experience, do it before some poor sucker gets taken!

The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale.

Well it's back up again!  It's been pulled 3 times and it's back up a fourth.

And it's been removed again.  All 4 now say that the item was removed by Ebay.

Looks like it's back and entered twice this time. How do you contact e-bay to notify them of this situation?

And it's apparently disappeared again.  The seller's feedback looked legitimate when I looked at it yesterday; and I'm wondering if the seller ID was hijacked.

I don't know how one would go about reporting something like this.  Here is a page that looks appropriate; but it says to click on the investigations link below which I can't seem to find.

Thanks for the pointer. I don't use e-bay after being scammed for weeks after losing an auction. I was amazed how 20 different people a day could offer me the same item for a lower price than auction closing price.

The id being high jacked sounds reasonable. The same seller had a Les Paul prototype listed for starting at $500. I searched and that same Les Paul was in a  legitimate auction with the current bid of $8100.

I also noticed the sellers history appeared to be vintage and high end clothing. Makes the guitars suspect.
