Hello Friends ,

Have you ever tried your Series 2 with a tech 21 Sansamp before connecting into your amp ? I heard so many good things about these i was wondering if it adds something really interesting to the sound ?

I run my Shortys into a Boss ME-50B and then into a SansAmp Bass Driver. I was intending to use the Bass Driver just for its DI feature, but I've found that I use the active circuitry to round out my tone. It's a useful tool... if the Boss went down on me (that just sounds dirty!!!) in the middle of a gig, I could get a decent tone just using the Bass Driver. I'm not even using a stage amp these days... I get my stage volume via the side fills.

Tech 21 makes a number of different things in their SansAmp line. I have a PSA 1 in my rig, which is indeed something really interesting.

I used to use a SansAmp Bass Driver as a direct box and also for some tone shaping. Used it for any of the basses in my arsenal (currently 2 of my 6 are Alembic Series basses). I wound up selling it off and buying a ToneWorks BassBone. Same concept, similar shaping capabilities, but also allows me to switch between two basses.

I would recommend either tool as a DI or as a tone shaper.

I have used my Epic with the SansAmp Bass Driver as a tone shaper and had good results. Every single time I play I have the Bass Driver with me, sometimes with the intention of using it and sometimes just in case. My appreciation for this product caused me to buy their Oxford pedal for the purpose of running a guitar into a PA system, well, 'sans amp' (duh). It works great, too.

I use a Sans Amp RB1 set for highs with a DBX 160A compressor in the effects loop to one channel of a Crown PB-3 with an unaffected output going to a Sans Amp RPM set for lows with a DBX 160A compressor in the effects loop to the other channel of the PB-3 and the unaffected output of the RPM to the input of my F1-X which has a DBX 160A compressor and an SF-2 in the effects loop and use the bi-amp outputs to another Crown PB-3 in stereo mode. The lows go through 2 custom made 1 X 15 cabinets with Beyma 15G40 Drivers and the highs go to 2 Eden 410XLT cabinets. I can send 3 seperate pre-amp outputs to FOH or a recording system plus a miked signal from one of the 10's. Thats just one way to configure my system but it's pretty cool.

I have used the Sansamp BDDI with 2 basses with Alembic pups (Jazz bass with Activators; 6-string fretless with AXY+Signature electronics).

Of course sound is very personal and writing about it is not a very objective process, but I just wanted to let you know that, although the BDDI does live up to its reputation (emulate a big tube amp's tone), I found it adds harmonics in certain frequency range that did not sound too pleasant to my ears (upper mids) and - more importantly - I found it impossible to tweak that character out of the sound, i.e. run it (close to) flat. I ended up selling it again for that reason and found myself using a Line6 Bass POD XT (Alembic F2B patch) to add a little tube edge without the frequency notch added (then again, the Line6 has its own particularities and does not run completely flat either).

My two cents...I run my SCSD through the sansamp RBI and then out to the amp/board/p.a./whatever about 90% of the time. As versatile as the sig electronics are, that RBI can add subtle bite to the sound that makes everything click together better...

My experience with the BDDI as well. I recently added mine back into my signal chain and I've been playing around with it. I'm interested in trying the rack mount version which actually has a mid control to see if I get better results.

I like the BDDI a great deal. I just haven't been 100% pleased when using it with my Alembics.

I love my Sansamp with my Precision but not so much with my Alembic (Spoiler electronics). I find it adds an unattractive brittleness that I just can't seem to get rid of....

I love my SansAmp bass DI. It's like a Swiss army knife for emergency gig bailouts. I call it the magic box.

That said, I'm not sure it always blends well with Series tone shaping. but your mileage may vary.

It sure does make beater basses and crappy amps sound good, though. I don't go to jams without it.

I have a sans amp Bass Di and a Agulair tone hammer. But I haven't used them together. I should try that out.

Though I don't have S-II electronics.... I am a huge fan of my VT Deluxe with my two Epics...it really cleans them up...and I usually don't have to bring amps to shows....straight to the board
