Hey Bill. From my perspective, the market is better these days, the price of Alembics have gone up, and of course the value of the dollar has gone down a bit. So the guitar bought several years ago, should go for a bit more these days. But $12,000 seems like at least double what I would pay if it was in prime shape, plus I do not know the seller, or much about the guitar being sold. 1/4 to 1/3 of replacement cost seems appropriate for used Alembics, depending on condition and how close it matches just what you are looking for, has always been my simple rule of thumb on old Alembics. Collectability never comes into play, for me, except in cases like Malthumbs old Series I Stanley used to own, and I believe even poses with it on a cover of one of his albums. This is all just my view on these matters. If I really wanted this guitar, I would be prone to go $5,000 to $6,000 on it, but hey, I ain't a guitar player . . .
