It's been awhile. Anyone want to do it again?
Chuck.
-
Chuck; I'm thinking we should wait until Alan and Keith have their new basses. Plus, I'm thinking Alan is away at culinary school. But we could certainly start thinking about it and discussing locations.
-
Maybe Alan will be wanting to show off his culinary skills then. ;)
OO
-
So Olie; you're saying that you'll make the trip to North Carolina if Alan cooks for you???
-
That's what Olie made it sound like to me ;) Count me in.
Art
-
SURE, as long as you're Ok with him cooking me steak! (make mine medium-rare with a nice bottle Cabernet! ;)
OO
Seriously though depending on the date, there is a good possibility.
-
Ah! this one would be very close to me, but I probably could'nt make this one either....damn it!
-
Cool !!!!
(But the burning of animal flesh will have to take place at a location some considerable distance from the actual event, and at a time subsequent to my departure!)
-
We should plan around Adam's schedule. Maybe make it a Sunday.
-
Not a probelm Dave, but can I still have my Cabernet?
Don't be a party pooper Adam! Catch a plane and make the new guitar player drive the truck! ;)
OO
-
Zoso has a new guitar player?!
Yes Olie; but you'll need a designated driver!
-
Depending upon how far out this ends up being I might have problems with a Sunday. I have just hooked up with a new band (Danny Cowan Group) and Sunday is rehearsal day. At this early stage I don't want to miss any rehearsals.
Would we be looking at having it over in Burlington again or further west like Winston-Salem?

So was the first North Carolina Gathering the first Gathering? I'm getting old and easily forget such things.
-
I think the last one (7/21/07) was the first that I know of in North Carolina. I'm looking forward to another. I'll be there. Here's the link:

I beleive the FIRST gathering was in Belgium, organized by Paul TBO. The first in the USA was I believe in Salt Lake City, followed by Dallas, then Canyon, North Carolina and then Bainbridge, with additional Dallas gatherings throughout. (Them Texans sure get together ALOT!)
But I've been wrong before. (Fairly often, in fact!)
Edited to add WHEN North Carolina was...

Depending on the dates I could possibly attend this one.

Keith and his wife Rene were visiting Asheville, so I drove into town to have dinner with them; and then later that evening Keith met up with Art, and the two of them drove out to my place. Here are some poor quality photos to document the event. That's Keith on the left side of the picture, and Art on the right.

And who might that mountain man in the middle be? ;)
OO
-
Olie; I'm thinking it's probably me. It looks a lot like me, and I remember standing between Keith and Art when the camera flashed; so I'm guessing it must be me. Oh, and I've got a really cool t-shirt just like that one!
-
Thanks for posting Dave. Had a great time meeting Keith and playing a bit. Lets get together again soon for a session.
-
It was nice meeting you Art. Thanks for coming to dinner Dave. Heading back home this morning. I had fun. The weather was great and made for a nice weekend.
Keith
-
Safe trip Keith. Emailed about brunch but you sound like you're getting out early.
Art
-
Art,
Just saw your note and sent a response. We left about 9:30 EDT to miss the post holiday rush home.

Art is that an Alembic tattoo you have there ?
-
Enzo, Yes it is ;) and can be seen at forearm inspiration (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=18913). Thanks!
-
That's really cool ! It makes me want one just like that. After all I'll be with an Alembic all my life
-
any updates on when this may be?

I would like to have Alan present. He is currently away at school so would guess we would need to try and arrange it when he is back in NC during a break. I would also like to try to arrange things so Adam could stop by.

A few days ago, Keith and I were once again talking about the next gathering, and the idea was suggested of planning two events as a way of possibly accommodating more people both geographically and calendarally. So what we may be looking at are events in both Asheville and Raleigh.
Art and I discussed it further today, and are going to try to get up with James (Staemius) to start thinking on a space.
-
Kind of off-topic, but is calendarally a real word? If so, I may have to use it sometime...
-
I was looking for something that would give balance to the conjunction; so if you have a conjunction that needs balancing, feel free to use it!
-
To expound a littler further. Not only will I use just about any excuse to make a trip to Asheville but we thought having something up there might allow some of the folks that live in Tennessee, western S.Carolina and N.E. Georgia to attend.

My brother lives in Hickory and I've never been to visit him since he moved there. I also have a couple of other friends in N.C., so a gathering that allows enough lead time just might entice me to make the pilgrimage. Which to bring? Woody, 10/07 COTM? Old #10? This could get interesting.
Bill, tgo
-
If WILD-BILL is in Crazy-O just may need to show up!
All I'd ask is enough lead time notice so I can drive (no snow or ice please) in and bring the A & O bass AND Adam buys the first bottle of wine! ;)
OO
Oh and any of you Dallas brothers (I won't mention any names but their initials are Mike, Wayne and John) that may want to car pool. .......sure would would be fun. Heads up though Mike is one Wild and Crazy Guy !
-
All we need now is for Mica to get onboard for a royal flush! ;)
-
Of course anyone that can make it will enrich the experience for all of us!
-
Olie, how comfortable is that Jeep of yours?
-
Brother if we drivw we're taking da 300.

Well there has been a landslide on I-40 east of Newport,Tn. and they anticipate a couple of months to clean it up. All those coming from the west should take I-20 to Atlanta where you pick up I-85 north to I-26 west in Greenville, S.C. stright up to Asheville if that's where this shall be held.
Has a date been set?
-
Adam; I've been talking with both Keith and Art, and we were thinking maybe waiting until the rock slide was cleared up. What do you think? What would work for your schedule?
Art; we need to work on finding a room.
-
It does'nt matter if it's cleared up or not as it'll only add another 1.5 hours to my trip (not a big deal to me). I just wanted to let anyone coming from the west know about the land slide. The holidays may hold this up, but let me check my schedule for December as I may have a Saturday off.
-
I think we should have one soon. I will offer up my place as a site, though it might not be best (I'm closer to Wilmington than a central location like Greensboro or Winston Salem). Keith has his new bass, and I have mine. If we do it at my place, I will do the BBQ (and I mean the good stuff) as well as other things. If not, I can bring my new Bradley electric Smoker, though it won't be true 'cue.
It's been three/four years since the last one. I think we're due.

It looks to be about a five hour trip from my house to Fayetteville, not including any come-to-a-complete-standstill traffic in Charlotte; so round trip would be ten hours. Add four hours or so for the gathering, and an hour or so for driving breaks, and it's doable in a day. Definitely worth considering.
I do have to mention that I wouldn't have any interest in the food portion of the program and would want to leave before that activity takes place. In fact, I must admit that I would feel more comfortable with the situation if the playing area is not within smell range of the cooking area; I'm thinking I would be physically uncomfortable spending any length of time with that smell. Sorry to be a problem in that regard, but I'm just trying to be honest with myself.
But I think it's a great idea, and thank you for the offer of your place for the gathering. If you don't think my little issue with the cooking smell will be a problem then I think we should kick this around and see what everybody else thinks.
I haven't been in that part of the state in quite a while and it would be nice to drive through the rural sandhills area again.
-
With current events going on in my personal and work life I'm not sure I could make anything for the next month or two.
Keith
-
Keith, let us know when the calendar start opening back up for you.
-
Dave - are you allergic to the smell of burning wood, smoke, BBQ or something? I can always make something special for you, in accordance with your preferences. As a cook/Chef, in the end, it's not about me, it's about the guest.
Also - if you don't want to make it a 10 hour day, you can always overnight at my place. Just putting it out there for you if you want to do this.
If we need to wait a couple of months, that's cool. It's pretty darned hot out these days as well. Maybe we can shoot for late August or September? Let me know.
Alan
