There have been some rumblings about organizing a fourth annual Northern California gathering. Is there enough interest to put one together this year?
Bill, tgo
-
I'd like to, provided my wife continues to improve
-
I'm interested and depending on a bunch of different things, possibly doable.
I'll be 'watching' to see how things go....
Best Regards,
Kimberly
-
I had the time of my life, last year. My bass was brand new (Happy B'day to her on June 25!) and it was intoxicating to hear those unreal tones from all the instruments that day. And what a great bunch of folks, too.
Count me in!
-Sam
-
For the traditional location, we better wait until October for the weather to cool. There were many overheated folks last year.
-
Mica, are you sure it wasn't all those desirable alembic bodies in the same place that caused people to overheat with desire?
Jazzyvee
-
I'm in!
As wonderful as the weather here in the San Francisco Bay Area is, you never know when you're going to be hit with a scorcher! Well, by other places' standards it might not be that hot, but so many places don't have air conditioning since you only need it for a few days a year...
-
Count me in too !

Dan:
What's the serial number of the old one? It looks like the bass twin to Old #10 (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=8379).
Bill, tgo
-
I bekieve it's the bass HERE http://club.alembic.com/Images/411/704.html (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=8616),
-
Hi Bill, serial is #14
Dan
-
When's it goin down?
-
October's right around the corner...
-
If there's enough interest, but not too many people, I can host in Alameda. I have a studio downstairs with P.A., drums, a bass rig, several guitar amps, and a keyboard amp. Any more than 10-12 people, though, and we'd better be real friendly.
Bill, tgo
-
How would Saturday October 2 work people? That might be the only Saturday I have free that month, that or Oct. 30.
-
October 2, the 30th, or any other day works for me. I wouldn't miss this for anything.
-Sam
-
You guys in Northern California have to have an annual gathering. I looked it up in the rule book; it's required.
-
Bill,
By using the word Basement, I guess that means my bringing the full SVT rig will be out. I could do either date. So the place in Canyon isn't going to work this year? That's too bad, you guys had a nice setup there.
Keep us posted, and as Dave said, this IS a requirement!
-
Bump!
-
Any word yet?
-
Oct. 30 still works for me - I assume tomorrow is too short notice? ;)
-
We can host at the showroom/factory in either early December or early January. It's not as spacious as the Canyon location as far as a stage area, but it's nice and dusty!
-
I can bring the SVT there...that'll clear the dust!
:-)
Either of those times would be fine with me. Keep us posted.
-
Sorry not to respond sooner - I'm busy the first weekend in December, but the second or third Saturday is fine for me, or 2nd or 4th Sat in January are all clear too! That sounds like fun! I'll bring my Glockenklang amp, we can have bass duets through Ken and my rigs!
-
Wow! Bass duets would be really cool. Having two bass amps would present intriguing possibilities. Series 1, 2, Signature, etc. owners could pair off and compare tone settings, techniques, philosophical approaches, whatever.
Or maybe we could have a main area with one amp where folks who already know oldie Dead and other cover songs can play and jam on those (like last time) while the rest of us can enjoy a smaller area set aside with the other amp to compare musical notes more quietly and intimately.
Of course, folks could freely wander back and forth between the two areas.
My 2 cents. Just yesterday my bass asked me when she could rub elbows again with all the beautiful instruments she saw last year....
-Sam
-
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Holiday Season with family, friends and other loved ones...but I heard my bass crying in her case the other night cuz' she's still waiting for info on the next Nor Cal Gathering....
Any news?
-
Just a quick bump to see if there is an update to this? February or March?
Ken (TEO)
-
Another Bump. March or April maybe??
-
Hi Ken! How about April 16?
-
Fine with me. Anyone else??
Mica???
Bill???
Bueller???
-
I'm game, too!
-
Ok, let's keep this going. We've got Sam, Harry and myself. Anyone else?
-
If Alembic can get Old #10 finished in time, I can do the 16th. Depending upon the size of the gathering, I might be able to host.
Bill, tgo
-
Ok, we're up to four now! I was hoping it could be at the mothership, but if it's only us four, Alameda would probably work well.
Mica?
Danny?
Eric?
-
April 16th is okay with me at this point.
Eric
-
Unfortunately, now April 16th is not okay with me--I was informed by senior management that a family event has just been scheduled for that day. Sorry for any confusion. I'm pretty sure you guys will somehow survive without me if the 16th is finalized as the event date :>)
Eric
(Message edited by alemberic on February 22, 2011)
-
Well Eric, don't count yourself out just yet. Right now it's just Sam, Harry, Bill and I. I'm pretty open schedule wise, just give me enough notice.
Anyone else?
Mica?
Danny?
Wolf?
-
Coordinating with Will on ranch availability. Looking like a 16 or 23 of April now, and I'll keep you posted when an actual date is set.
-
Alas, if it's April 23rd I will have to pass as I will be in Denver that weekend attending the annual NORML national conference. Accordingly, I'd vote for the 16th or another date in May, perhaps. And that gives the Motherhip more time to finish Old #10 so I can bring the guitar for everyone to check out.
Bill, tgo
-
May is fine with me, except for the second weekend.
-
Pencil it in for the 16th, pending confirmations from the rest of the family on availability.
Gee Bill, would you like to bring #10 to the Gathering? ;)
-
Sometimes I have to Fly by the seat of my pants, line of sight like a bird ; schedule wise .I can try to coordinate accordingly , I might make it. I would like to.
-
Mica:
Of course you could bring #10 along too. Either way works for me! lol
Bill, tgo
-
16th works for me !
-
The 16th works for me, too.
-Sam
-
16th works here, too!
-
16th still works for me too - I'm going to try and keep from scheduling anything that day as long as I can...
-
The 16th it is unless I hear about any scheduling conflicts with Will. Looking forward to having lots of fun!
-
Where is the location ?
-
To quote Bullwinkle: this time for sure!. I'll be there with my Rogues, a coupla other fun basses that are going to my gig with me that night, and at least one of the guitar amps I build so you guitar guys can really hear what your Alembics sound like.
-
The ranch is in Canyon, just over the Oakland hills. Does anyone have a copy of the directions I sent out in previous years? I can't find them on my computer.
Bill, tgo
-
Through the generosity of my brother, who had some frequent flier miles available, I am booked for the gathering.
-
That is really cool !
-
Yeah, I thought so too; he's a good brother.
-
Wow - that is great news! I am still struggling to keep April 16 free - so far so good!
-
So email to me with gathering in the subject line for 1-2 updates on the event. The first announcement of course is that our Dave will attend.
-
Moder Dave's comin' to the coast? FAR FREAKIN' OUT!!!! This is gonna be BIG fun!
Bill, tgo
-
And miss the chance to see William G. Panzer, Esq. and Moder-Dave?
I'm going to Cali, baby!!!!!
Got the ticket today...See you all in a couple of weeks!!!
-
And the Doctor's gonna be in the house? This may be the baddest Alembic gathering since Chicago!
Dan: I sure hope you're bringing #14 as a little elf told me #10 will be emerging from its cocoon with electronics up and working in time for the gathering. Let's get these long lost twins together again. Yee-haaa!
Bill, tgo
-
Hi Bill, Yes # 14 and the rest of my Alembic's !
Can't wait to meet everyone!
Dan
-
Hi Guys,
This is looking like it's becoming more and more doable for me!
The next week will tell the tale.
Til then.
Best Regards,
Kimberly
-
Kimberly:
Hope you can make it!
Bill, tgo
-
Man - One more reason to be jealous of all you left-coasters!!
-
Countdown: 8 days!
-
Question: What do you get when you cross a Little Darling guitar, a Jan Al flight case and a round trip ticket to San Francisco?
Answer: The chance to jam with Moder Dave and William G. Panzer, Esquire!!!
-
My Rogues and I will be there, and I'll be bringing the latest version of the Super Prince amp I build. Haven't heard an Alembic guitar through it yet--can't wait!
-
I'm considering selling or trading the '95 Epic 5 Fretless I recently restored. I'll be bringing it to the gathering, if anyone is interested. I've posted a thread in the for sale or trade section that has a link to pics. FOUR DAYS AND COUNTING!!!!
Bill, tgo
-
Have a great time everyone!!!
-
I'll be moving my son to Hollywood in June, wish I was going to be out there for the gathering Saturday! I do plan to visit the Mothership while I'm out there though! Have fun, can't wait to see the pictures! Someone shoot some video & post it on You Tube!
-
How is the Cell Phone reception over there ? I have Nextel / Sprint.
-
Wolf, the cell reception is, to be kind, periodic. If you stand in the right spot, facing the right direction, you might be able to hear 1 out of every 3 words in the conversation.
Rusty,
A common mis conception about California: Hollywood is about a 6+ hour drive to the SF bay area. Throw in the traffic near the metroploitan areas and you talking a long drive day between them. You may have already known this, but I just thought you should plan accordingly.
Looking forward to tomorrow!
Ken
-
Thanks Ken.
-
Verizon is a little better out there.
I have a bunch of guitar stands from when I exhibit at the 2x a year World Guitar Show, so I'll have a few extra in the car in case anyone needs a stand. See y'all tomorrow!
Bill, tgo
-
Thanks Ken! Yes, I knew the drive was going to be a long one. We plan to make it an overnight trip from Hollywood. We will spend the night in San Francisco, hopefully do an early tour the next day of the Mothership, then head back to Hollywood. We will be out there around 10 days, so I wanted to take the time to see the factory while I'm in the neighborhood. Compared to Texas, Hollywood is in the neighborhood of Santa Rosa! Have fun tomorrow!
-
Rusty:
Hit me up when you are nearing your trip and I can give you some suggestions for scenic drives, places to stop, etc. You can easily spend the whole day coming up the coast or even overnight it, if you have the time. If you are in a rush either way, you can shoot straight down I5 and easily do the S.F./L.A. leg in 6 hours or less. Boring, straight road the whole way, but fast.
Bill, tgo
-
I remember when I picked up my Distillate in Mission Viejo, Ca. I drove 421 miles from Oakland one way and back again on the same day. (yes 842 miles !) but I would not do that again! I used I-5 most of the way. LOL______ I am proud to say that I used no chemical enhancements to do so; just the pure joy of realizing what I was about to acquire was all that was necessary.I needed to be back for work and pick up my Wife from the Airport who was visiting family out of State. I found that I was still in practice driving long routes from driving a long bobtail truck from Florida to California in 5 Days a few years earlier. It took almost 2 days to get across the great state of Texas @ the speed limit.
Wolf
(Message edited by sonicus on April 15, 2011)
-
Thanks Bill! I will do that! At this point it looks like my visit to the factory will be June 22 if they are still doing tours on Wednesdays. Wolf, you are right about the drive across Texas! I live in the Houston area & it takes all day to get to El Paso, & I'm starting about in the middle of the state! Texas is definitely a big state! They are talking about raising the speed limit in parts of the state to 85, so that will help with the long drive to Hollywood. Although I will be doing it in a U Haul, so I don't know if it will do 85! LOL!
-
Rusty When you make your trip to Northern California , let me know and perhaps we can all have a local lunch meeting or the such , if it works out schedule wise for me.
Wolf
-
Rusty:
Ssshhhhhh. Don't tell anyone else, but the factory tour schedule at Alembic is usually EXTREMELY flexible. Just give them a head's up and I suspect you can drop by almost any day, even if it's not a Wednesday!!!! But let's keep this between you and me, O.K? hehehehe
And I'll try to make a lunch too.
Bill, tgo
-
We drove from the bay area to San Antonio in 2 days. It's pretty bad when you think of El Paso being intersting, cause there is NOTHING between that and San Antonio! Interstate 5 to LA is much more scenic!
I would make sure to check in with Mica or Mary about your visit. There are times they can't accomodate.
So, what's for lunch?
:-)
-
I'll also have my Mesa Walkabout Scout with me, as well as my Knutson Messenger EUB and my Peavey Cirrus as the basses and I will all be going to entertain the fine folks at the Italian American Social Club in SF afterwards. Oh, and I'll actually have 2 versions of the Super Prince with me too. If you're curious about just what the heck is a Super Prince, there's pics here:

-
HI Ken , perhaps you will join us as well ? Well I am thinking of one of two local buffets in Berkeley . There is Bacheeso's ,( Mediterranean )and Mint Leaf , (Indian). Both places offer a very satisfying large quite tasty Bang for your Buck deal and an atmosphere for jubilant boisterous discussions . There are many good choices form Alameda to Santa Rosa. There is a great Mexican place in the City of Alameda as well.
-
Hey Wolf, that sounds like a great idea! I will let you know when it get's closer to the date. At this point it looks like we will be heading that way around June 17. It took us 3 days driving out there in January to get my son settled in school, but we could have done it in 2. I'm thinking it will take the full 3 days in a U Haul though. Lunch sounds like fun! I would love to meet some of the legends of the forum I have been reading! Bill, I will get with Mica & Mary when I know for sure what our plans are. It will probably be during the week of June 20 - 24, so I can do Wed. or any other day. We will have my son moved into his Apartment over the weekend, so I'll have the whole week to be a tourist! Ken, you are right, there is not much to see on I-10 in Texas from border to border!
-
Dave is here, car is packed up, and instruments are staged and ready to load up in the AM. Fun to come!
-
Getting ready to load the car and head east !

I'm jealous!! Lots of pictures folks- lots of pictures. Perhaps some video to go on YouTube for the rest of us?
-
I'm green too..and only a couple states away ,
looking forward to pics (and vids ?!)
Elwood
-
Firsties!
I thought would start a new thread for the results - here it is: Northern California IV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=9815)
-
That graphite Small Standard is amazing!!!!! I love the original body template.... very deserving of a mustache tailpiece.
Harry, I never realized your 5'er had anniversary electronics.
I see my old Orion Baritone made it to the gathering!
-
Harry - Is that your graphite bass? I don't think I've seen that one before.
I love it!
Michael
-
Yeah, that Small Standard was one of my faves this year - I wish it was mine! I can't remember the name of the guy it belongs to - he was gracious enough to let me play it through his rig - red LEDs, electronics a bit funky but still a joy to play!
I couldn't really get along with the original Signature electronics - I prefer a pickup selector - so I had Alembic put in Anniversary electronics - much better! (for me anyway) I especially love being able to turn it off with the pup selector!
-
Looking back at the pictures in this thread, I noticed good ol' #14 & that beautiful Jazz-style bass, belonging to mr. dannyj - nice to meet you sir! I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to you more - definitely will do so next time!
