Ok folks, it?s been a year and a half since we did this last so I thought I?d start the ball rolling. Mike and I discussed this in Chicago and thought it?d be a good time to throw it up for some timing and venue ideas.
So are the folks in the area ready to do it again and if so when is a good time for everyone? I really liked the venue we used last time. The price was right and it had lots of room.
I?d like to see the out of town brothers, (Michael, David & Jorge) be able to make it if you guys can.
Christian you are always welcome; of course I don?t think your wife would be as understanding about 2 trips to the US in one year. LOL
Ok guys chime in and lest get the ball rolling.
OO
PS. Mica Dallas is a great place to visit. And I?d personally show you guys around town.
-
OK let's start planning, my vote will be early fall, when it's not so hot!! the last place we had it was great.
it looks like 28 Alembic's is the number to beat
I think we can do it
Sir David T
-
Hey dave that power supply cable you gave me a few yrs ago powered up several of those series Basses during the chicago jam!....thanks a million!!!
-
Kevin that wasn't me, I sent you the machine head post when yours got brokin off, but thanks for thinking about me
I wish I could have been there
more pictures please
Sir David T
-
OOOPS!!!...........well thanks to you my 'E' string stayed in tune while my bass was passed around for the gang to beatup on!

Good thing we don't work for the airline 'eh Keavin.

The Jam Station is a nice venue and I wouldn?t mind going back. Roomy enough to set up, talk and play. My only concern (and it's a small one) would be the time restrictions they had on the room if people want to hang around longer.
Depending on the number of people attending, an alternative could be someone?s home - granted the support and approval of any interested domestic parties. Friendlier accommodations, possible beer, wine and BBQ action at the end of the day, or during for that matter. Just thinking aloud if some are interested AND we have a place to hold it.
Here?s a thought: Zoo Music has the store property that was Larry Morgan?s place. Larry constructed a few nicely sized rooms after he moved in a few years back. Zoo is using it as a place for storage since Larry closed. Sad outcome if you ask me. But it may be an option.
I?d like to also to have more than one guitar player if the plan is to jam. I think Dave was a little overwhelmed with the volume of bassists, hardee har har. And one that knows some older, uh, ?seasoned? material would be good.
David - certainly OK is hotter than Texas in the Summer, where?d all that red dirt come from?
Keavin - what are the chances that you?ll be making a family trip this fall? Could we time something?
Mike
-
We can use my house but room may be a slight problem and we'd have to woory about the dogs wizzin on the instruments.
I have a couple of guys in mind, guitar players, that I'm pretty sure I can get to come out for this. I'm also working on a six stinger that we all know and love from the west coast area!
And Mike is right Keavin, I think Mrs. Barnes needs to visit her family, say around Sept.?
OO
-
there's a possibility...........because my wife's sister lives in dallas & we havent been yet this year so i'll see what you guys come up with!...& in the mean time ill do some TITTIE sucking to butter her for the Trip!
-
whatever it takes, brother-man. I don't care if it means taking out the trash, doing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom. you do whatever you need to.
-
Depending on the timing, work, airfares, and, most importantly, senior management, I'd love to come out and jam with y'all (that's what they say in Texas, isn't it?) Do they let 49er/Warrior fans cross the border these days?
Bill, tgo
-
SURE as long you wear yer boots n cowboy hat!
OO
PS. Practice up on yer YeeEE-HAAawwww
-
What about Cheeseheads?
Do they let Cheeseheads into Texas?
I'll let 'the group' decide on a date and see if I can swing it. Right now the odds are not in my favor ($$$) but Shoot Y'all, I had more fun than a brahma bull in a buckin' contest in Chi-town... it would be as sweet as iced-tea to be in Dallas.
My cousins were actually next door neihbors to Mike Ditka when he lived in Richardson - back in the days when he was a player and not a coach. Calvin Hill was my hero back then! :-)
-
Umm,I'm N.Y. born and raised, so I don't know a lot about these things, but doesn't the bull in the buckin' contest buck because there is a strap squeezing his balls?
NOT FUN!!!!
Bill, tgo
-
Sir David - it won't be not so hot until Thanksgiving!! :-)
All y'all know I'm in.
A thought: Reserve the Jam Station for a few hours for playing and then move to a nearby eatery/drinkery for the not-playing part.....There's a little Cajun place not too far away that has a moderate sized back room that I might be able to reserve.
I can probably arm-twist a couple of 6-stringers into joining us as well. Of course, would we really need additional highs if the Esquire joins us from CA.......
C-Ya.......wayne
-
Oh I don't know, I imagine Bill would be bringing plenty of highs of his own. ;)
OO
-
Paul, Cheesheads are always welcome! Now I don't know if we'll have a 4x21 for you to play with but we usually have some good rigs there. Waynes Bag-End equipped rig is REALLY good!
Bill, my dad was born in Buffalo NY and rasied just a few miles south in Ridgeway PA. So I have some Yankee roots, but shhhhhhh..... don't say it TOO loud.
OO
-
Yankee roots? My mom spent her early years in NY before moving to Mass (Mathuen, Lawrence, Andover). Much to her family's befuddlement she married an Okie. There's been a constant Yankee vs Okie fued since then, mostly perpetuated by my dad. A few years ago one of his great aunts traced the family history. Turns out he has Yankee roots that are deeper than my mom's. Irony at it's finest.
Paul, hey man, everyone is welcome.
-
Does that make you a Yokie!
Sorry just Yoking!
OO
-
My first two plus years as an air breather were at Ft Bragg. If that counts for anything I'm a Tarheel.
Mostly, I'm just confused.
-
Hmmm, I could possibly make this one....I'm a five hour drive from Dallas, but my brother in law lives there, and he needs to be visited....
-
I agree Will, come see the outlaws ...er uh... I men inlaws! Hot Springs ain't dat fer! We ride our MC's up there all the time.
OO
-
OO, next time your raisin' hayle through HS in a hawg rally or whatnot, shoot me an email beforehands and we'll have ye over for some corn squeezin's and Olympic playin'.
-
You got it brother!
We don't do the hog rallies much anymore we do get up that way! Usually around Mena or Crystal Springs is were we stay.
OO
-
You guys talk funny . . . .
ain't dat fer corn squeezin's
But I shore due no watt an Olympic is!
:-D
-
A little bump for the thread. So far I see David, oops er uh I mean SIR David, Wayne, Mike and myself and maybe a few out of towners. Anybody else getting interested, John T, Jorge, Michael...?
How does September sound to everyone?
OO
-
Sometime in September sounds great, it would be neet if someone from the Mothership could make it to Dallas (hint hint) but at very least, we must beat the number of Alembic's that the Chicago had, and this may be tough.
Sir David
-
I'm in. If I know the date early enough the better. That way I would make sure I am off.
I would love to bring my wife and son too. They wanted to go last time, but our schedules were hectic.
-
Awesome Michael. Mike and I had talked about this and thought it would be cool to have the wife and kids come too.
I guess we should shoot for early September hopefully before school starts back.
David don't work for the college up there and if so when do you start back there?
I have a couple of drummers I can get to come and hopefully we can get Pete, the cat that played drums the last couple of times. I have some guitar players in mind too, maybe Jorges new guitar will be ready and he'll be ready to show it off.
Bill, I think you'll be due for a weekend get-away about September wouldn't you agree?
And I think Mrs. Barnes may heed to visit her sister around then, eh Keavin?
Anyone have an preference for which weekend in September?
OO
PS Mica since Ron had to miss Chicago you guys owe him a weekend away! Say maybe Oh i don't know to Dallas in September? (Of course we'd love to have you, Bill and Erik and Susan may want to come keep ya'll out of trouble!
-
Olie, the first saturday of the month I have a Porsche club meeting, but if thats the saturday I can can miss the club meeting, I'll be there

Good idea Mike. Pete's a great drummer.
#12 an #16 in Dallas, YEA Baby!
So is the 2'nd Saturday in September (the 12th) OK with everyone?
-
Quick little bump on the thread. I know September sounds far off but it creeps up on you faster thab you think.
Anyone coming, thinking of coming please shot me an email (check my profile) and I'll add you to email updates.
Is Sept 12th looking OK for everyone? I'd like to lock in the date for all of our out-of-town family that would like to come.
OO

Pete's in, me too. lol.
-
Olie I will look ahead and see if I can make this one and get back to you..John Judge alias The Raven lol!
-
OK folks, Mike's got the venue reserved for Sept. 12th from 12pm -6pm. Anyone thinking of coming please send me your email address (check my profile) and I'll keep you informed of any updates. Even if you're not 100% sure but are contemplating it shoot me an email. Doens't hurt to be informed.
We should have a great time, most of the guys from last year and the years before are coming back and some new faces too. We seem to always have more basses/guitars than people so there will be plenty os toys to play with.
OO

September 12th is the confirmed date 12pm -6 pm. For the gathering at 6 until ???? for everything else.
Wayne which cajun place are you thinking of!
OO
-
Guys, been off the board way too long, but really pumped about the September get-together.
We've got a pretty good-sized house (Wayne has seen it), but it sounds like we're going to have a really big group this time, so Jam Station maybe best choice if everyone is going to show up. My rig's expanded a little bit, but no new Alembics to up the body count.
Wanted to float another idea for the group, especially since we have families traveling from afar - we could host a cook-out, swim for everyone at the house either Friday evening if everyone is going to be in around dinner, or Saturday after the Jam. Might give us a little more relaxed setting and more time to hang out.
Just a thought - let me know if there's any interest.
-
Clarification: everyone includes local spouses and children as well as out o' state visitors.
-
Olie. I didn't get a e-mail with update info, add me to the list
David T (Sir)
-
Will do David.
-
I probably started the whole family thing. But, I am not sure if they will make it or not. It all depends on what is happening with my son's school/scouts/homework, etc...
-
Just sent another update email, if you are thinking of coming and did not receive the email send me your email address, chack my profile.
David I have you on the list but I keep getting your emails returned to me. I have the address that's in your profile.
OO
-
Olie, did you tell me another Okie may be comming the Party,
e-mail me his name and e-mail so I can touch bass (base) with him
Sir David T

All those that did receive the email please reply so we can get a head count.

OO

Getting close people. Sept 12th high noon! I've sent out an email update anyone thats coming and didn't not receive the email please contact me (check my profile for email) and I'll send you the details.
OO
-
Hey David T. and Keavin, check your email.
And wild Bill!!!!! will mama let you come out an play?!
And John J, any chance of the Mountain Top man coming to Big D?
OO
-
Olie:
You guys will surely have a great time without me. We just moved into a new house and Senior Management says I have to stay home and unpack boxes for the next couple of months. (A decision with which I must reluctantly agree. One never realizes how much stuff you accumulate in ten years until you have to box it all up, move it, and unpack). At least one of my projects is that I get to set up a studio in the finished basement.
Bill, tgo
-
It's getting close, less than two weeks. Anyone attending or planning on attending or thinking of attending Let me know and I'll send you the details.
OO
-
is everything still good to go for Saturday?
-
Absolutely! Same Bat time same Bat channel!
-
Y'all (that is the correct salutation for a Texas event, right?)have an outstanding time tomorrow. Sure wish I could be there. If I feel a little earthquake rumbling in from the east I'll know where it started. Play a Dead tune for me. Looking forward to some pics.
Bill, tgo
-
I wish I could be there too! Maybe my schedule will be a little less hectic next year and I can make it to more regional gatherings.
Hope you have a splendid time.
-
Wishing I could be there too. Enjoy!
-
Someone please PLEASE hit a low D for me! :-)
Have fun and take lots of pictures, maybe record some of it?
-
All the rain we've had in the past 24 hours puts a new spin on Texas Flood.
Paul, I'll D tune just for you!
-
Just a D ..... I prefer an open B to really shake things up.
C-Ya.......wayne

Okay, so my daughter got off to homecoming after pictures and my wife is watching the U.S. Open, so I thought I'd post a little taste of Dallas Alembic Jam IV (V?) . . . our drummer Breck joined us this fall along with regular Pete (shown later). Mike is playing Olie's Alpha/Omega bass . . . funny, all of us kept coming back to that bad boy.
-
It was a real treat this time out to also have Kevin, friend of Wayne's, join us on keyboards (and he played a mean bass before improvising on the ivories), shown here with Olie, Dave and Pete on drums . . . let's see, Dave would be playing . . . Olie's Alpha Omega bass again!
-
We were disappointed that we had only local representation and missed seeing some old friends and making some new ones, but everyone was so excited to have a west coast representative show up . . . David Crosby in an extremely rare photo playing an Alembic bass!
-
Another jam shot, with Olie playing his Alpha Omega bass (what else?), Wayne playing Dave's 1976 Series One, and Mike playing John's (formerly Adam's) Series One and Pete holding it all together . . .
-
Olie groovin' on Wayne's Unicorn bass . . .
-
Mike groovin' on what else . . . Olie's Alpha Omega . . .
-
Flame and Coco Bola . . . oh my!
-
Walnut and Vermilion . . . oh my! (check out the inlays on Olie's bass in the back right)
-
And a very nice picture of Dave's hand cut logo from 1976 . . .
-
And one technology failure . . . the best (poor) picture of the group. Wayne cleverly held up his very cool Alembic Texas license plate, only none of us thought about it being HIGHLY reflective which totally blew the camera's mind (so much for intelligent electronics). So obviously an excuse to get together again. From left to right: John, Kevin, Dave, Wayne, Mike, Olie, Pete and Breck . . . (http://club.alembic.com/Images/65124/70338.jpg)
-
I recognize that purple elan in the back : )
Thanks for the pics John! One of these days I'll make it to Texas.
-
I like that last pic...almost looks like the Alembic cloud/sunbreak with the basses as rays of light.
-
Thanks for the pics John!! What a great lookin' bunch of Alembic club members!
-
A swell time must of been had !
-
I was there and I know more pictures were takin
come on now, lets see some more or David Crosby may not come back

My cadillac fugged up & needed a tune up which prevented me to packup and hit the road for this gathering but i know its been a good one for you guys...... cant wait to see some footage!
-
Looked like a great time was had by all and I would've loved to been there. It's great to see my ol' Series 1 in good hands but that's enough time away as I would like her back now(thanks for taking care of her John). Ha Ha!
-
Adam, I completely understand. She's a great bass, and I've got these super light strings on her now that make for a very different, groovy playing experience.
Actually, this is the first chance I've had to really play with my new setup - I've got an old F2B, running through a Mackie FR1400 stereo amp that dumps about 300 watts a side into a pair of Eden D210XST (the low frequency versions good down to 30 hz). I set the cabinets on opposite sides of the stage, angled in, and the stereo sound and output is absolutely freaking amazing! Really demonstrates the fidelity of Series instruments.
(and I can go mono into 4 ohms with the same rig and get 1400 watts into the cabinets in parallel with the MK5 Signature - also sounds like a dream come true).
Adam, back to your request, if you'll just drop that 89 SII in the mail, I'll pack up the S1 in the same box and get it right back out to you and we can call it even
-
Hey Dallas....it's been a year & 8 months since your last gathering, it's time for another one! Have Alembic, will travel! Anyone at home? Hello.....!!!
