Hey Lone Star 'Lembicans, I think it's time we introduced ourselves & our instruments! Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio...ANYWHERE!! It's time for a Texas sized gathering! Any takers?
-
If Olie's lurking around, this might just flush him out. lol
Bill, tgo
-
That's what I was hoping!
-
Hey Rusty, might need better bait. I think everyone up here in Dallas has had their heads down for quite a while.
-
I know there are several Alembic players here in Houston too, but I don't know if they read the forum. So what kind of bait have you used in the past to stir up interest?
-
Post a motorcycle picture. That should do it. ;)

This is an old picture, but I still have the bike, & the date on the picture is the same date I got my Alembic last year, February 24, 2011!
-
Great bike Rust!!!!!
-
Thanks George! John's suggestion didn't work though. I posted a motorcycle picture & still can't get any interest in a Texas Gathering! Do you have gatherings in Scotland?
-
Rusty, the Scotland gatherings are sometimes as breathtaking (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=9846) as CSI (http://club.alembic.com/Images/65124/50598.html?1243336859) allows... oddly enough, I have been to a Texas gathering in 2007, and attended the Chicago get together in 2009, but I never made it to Scotland so far shame on me...
The thread of my second link is one of my all-time-favourites
Christian
-
George & I have been in each other's homes via Skype, but I would love to go there in person! Scotland is a beautiful country! I loved the CSI thread! George is quite the wordsmith!
-
Thanks Rusty!
I'm even fatter now I think!
Still---Spring is here in my area now, so time to get the bike out----and cycle to the Pub instead of just walking! Just my bit for my new fitness regime. Should be slim in about---------30 years.
-
Christian,
You are welcome to visit anytime!
Rusty knows that he and Lissa can stay as long as they like.
-
It's hard to tote the Alembic on your bike!
-
Just rest it on the belly!!!!
-
Just make sure you're wearing your Nailers shirt!
-
I'm wearing it as I type!!!!!!!!!
-
You're my hero!!!
-
Well it took 2 months but I am officially flushed out. An Alembic Gathering just might be exactly what I need.
Any suggestions as to where. I'll volunteer my house. If we do it before it gets too hot we can set up by the pool or in the garage.
OO
-
Oh and by the way, Nice Dyna Rusty!
OO
-
Thanks Olie! I'm in wherever we want to meet! Alert the masses & lets make this happen!
-
Olie, good to see you're still alive and kickin'!
Bill, tgo
-
+ 1 on Bill's message!
-
See, Rusty, it worked!
Glad to see you're still with us, Olie!
John
-
Thanks for the suggestion John! Now if we can just flush out the rest of the Texas Alembicans maybe we can make this happen!
-
Olie,
Flushed out? What gives? Or is it: What gave?
-
OK guys. lets kick start this thing. Start throwing out the suggestions: location, date....
I have a singer/guitar-player that I can probably get to come this time as well as a drummer to give Pete some rest (that's if we can convince Pete to come out again).
Bill, when's the last time you've been to Texas?!;)
Anyway, it's been too long, lete's do it.
OO

the only weekend I'm booked is May 26
somebody call Dela
we need to do it TEXAS size, BIGGER and LOUDER than everyone else
Sir David T
-
I'm booked May 19, June 9-July 14, Nov. 3, & Dec. 22. Any other weekend is hit & miss on my work schedule, but I can take vacation to come to the gathering! Count me in!
Rusty
-
May 19 is the only definite out for me as well, that's kinda soon anyway. Since Rusty has been pushing this more than anyone else, I think we should do what we can to make sure he can be there. As for myself, I'd like to wait until June 1 - school is out and volleyball season is over (I coach). I have something booked every first, second and third Saturday of each month, but can work around it if needed. Holidays are always chancy as we usually visit in-laws, but with advanced planning anything is possible.
I'm sure Pete would be in as long as we have a date or two to give him.
Haven't heard a reply from John regarding Wayne's suggestion of hosting again. Can always revisit The Jam Station again, but I'm tired of paying for space.
Funny, yesterday afternoon I was trying to imagine how a conversation with Guitar Resurrection (Austin, TX) would go if the idea of hosting a gathering were presented to them. Small shop and they were amiable when I visited them a few years back while jonesing for their Brown Bass.
Mike
-
Thanks Mike! I think having it at Guitar Resurrection is a great idea, & I'm sure they would be happy to host us! What better way to get a bunch of potential Alembic customers in the store than inviting a bunch of Alembic owners!
-
We're down that way at least once in the Summer visiting family in Round Rock, so it's an easy suggestion for me to entertain. On the other hand it's almost doubles the distance David needs to drive. And then there's the matter of getting the other guys motivated to drive on down. Road Trip!' is probably a barely audible echo of days gone bye. There isn't much in the way of eats (or anything else) in the general area of GR. Seemingly, we have no reservations about making YOU drive up from Houston. ;)
Wayne, John? Wherya'at? That's Texanese for Whutchathinkin?
-
Where's this GR place? I'm in Arkansas. I could do a Dallas gathering possibly, but Houston's probably out of my reasonable travelsphere...
Hey Rusty if it works out, we'll have a collegiate cocobolo SCSD duel.
-
Guitar Resurrection (http://www.guitarrez.com target=_blank) is in North Austin. Since Larry Morgan Music Co closed, GR is the only official Alembic dealer that I know of in Texas. It's a small, out of the way boutique. A little more than 3 hours drive from Dallas.
-
Hey, I drove a 16' U Haul from Pasadena, TX all the way to LA, then rented a car & drove to Santa Rosa to tour the Mothership (OK, so there was a little matter of moving my son to Hollywood along the way, but I digress!), so I can certainly drive to Dallas or Austin or wherever to bond with my Texas Alembic brothers & sisters! I don't mind a road trip & I'll try to recruit some Houston Alembicans to come with me!
-
Will, I'm not sure if the cosmos can handle 2 of the most beautiful SCSD's ever created in the same room, but it's worth the risk! Austin is 813 miles from Hot Springs, & 193 miles from Dallas, so you are 8 hours from Austin & 4.5 hours from Dallas.
-
Two Stanley Shorties in one location is definitely worth the risk.

What would be even more cool would be if Stanley Clarke or jimmy j just turned up at one of the gatherings.
Jazzyvee
-
That WOULD be cool Jazzyvee! I would love to have a picture of them playing my bass!
-
BUMP...ok guys lets start throwing out some idea's when, where, how long, (will Mica finally come to Texas, maybe Bill..., Christian I KNOW is missing the Lone Star State, John could Judge the most unique Alembic and Keavin's got kin folk down here...) But seriously let's get der ball rolling. I could use some spirit lifting and good friends and good times are just the ticket.

I like Mike's idea of having it at Guitar Resurrection in Austin, but I will go anywhere we decide to have it!
-
Dallas for me
-
Well we've got 1 vote for Austin 1 vote for Dallas. Dallas works best for me so I guess thats 2 vote for Dallas. Anybody else?

GR would be fun, but I think the more likely location is going to be Dallas. My vote is Dallas. Why is Texas so dang big?
Mike
-
Texas is so dang big because the Red River is to far north, Dallas should be in Okla.
Sir Okie David T
-
Dallas. When?
-
Hello all - I'm happy to volunteer my house and music room. Not overwhelming, but big enough for 10 - 12. Big drum kit, keyboard rig, small PA, couple of guitar amps, two bass rigs plus a combo.
Seems like we have a consensus with the 4 Horsemen of the Dallas Apocalypse that Saturday June 9th works well. How's that fit with Houston, Austin and Oklahoma?
If we get too many, we can rent a space.
John
-
I have a gig in Galveston June 9. :-(
-
Rusty -
No worries, what Saturdays in June work for you?
John
-
I'm working nights June 2, but it's my last night so I can take a vacation day if need be. I know Sundays are bad for most people, but I'm off June 3. My band plays June 9, & I will be on vacation the rest of the weekends in June, so June 2 is my only shot if we are doing it in June.
-
June 2nd is the only weekend in June that I can not do but all the others are good so far.
OO
-
I'm not available 06/02. Sorry.
C-Ya............wayne
-
It seems that June is a bad month for many, so do we have to do it in June, or can we do it later?
-
July 14 and July 21 also work for me. Would love to find a date when we can get the twin SCSDs in town.
-
According to one of Rusty's posts from April 19, he's available July 21. Without the benefit of the family Social Director's calendar, I think I am as well. Any takers?
-
I am available July 14 & 21 as well! It would be great to see the twins together!
-
July is good for me, far enough ahead for us to see how many may come and if we need a bigger venue or not.
OO
-
I'm starting to like the sound of this!
-
July 14 is good for me, I have to play the next friday , but I could make it on the 21
David T
-
I hate to make things more difficult, but I have to scratch July 14 from my available dates, my band has a gig now.
-
I have to work on July 14 weekend. July 21 is looking really good though. I'll go ahead and put the 21st down in pencil for now---but let me know if I need to change it to ink.
-
Yes, yes, ink is good....bring on the ink!!!
-
So, has July 21 solidified as a Dallas Alembic gathering? If so, I should be able to make it.
-
The 21st is still a good date for me, too. Check your email.
-
July 21 is good for me, & also July 14 has opened back up, our singer is having surgery so I had to cancel our gig.
-
I'm rested up from my 20 day trip to Alaska....ready for a road trip to Dallas....any concrete dates yet???
-
Hey Rusty, I've been wondering the same. Not a peep from anyone in a while.
-
I plan to fly down to Dallas in March of '13 for the texas steel guitar association convention - anybody likely to be around?
R.
-
I just emailed everyone, so maybe that will generate some interest!
-
Well, no luck on Texas in '12, how is this year looking for a Texas gathering?
-
End of May through late June could work for me
my band is off for 4 weeks
Sir David T
-
I have June 8 open.
-
Hey Y'all!
I live down the road in beautiful Austin, Texas.
I own two '96 Rogues, a 4 & 5 string. One day, I hope to work my way up to a Series instrument.
It would be great to meet y'all.
-
Tyler, I have yet to make it to a gathering either, hopefully we can make it happen this year!
-
Hey y'all! Did I miss this? I was in Austin in Oct. for the Bubble Puppy show at Threadgill's. Hopefully I'll be back there in 2013.
Sam
-
No Sam, you haven't missed anything yet. It would seem my fellow Texans are too busy for a gathering right now. I'm still hoping to attend my first one soon!
-
I will start a new tread
