Just got home from another great gathering...

(The twig is a holdover from Canyon!)
Thank you to Mica, Will, and everyone else!

And some pictures! I took this shot of everything up until that point - around 12:30:

Later on, I was reunited with my Stanley Clarke Signature Squared, with Ken's Series I fretless in back:

Got to listen to Matt jamming on his Series I guitar:

And we managed to gather together the knobbies that were present:

Dave Fung's 8-string, my doubleneck, and Bill TGO's 12-string, which I believe may tie the record for strings - 30!!!

Oh, the drooling!!! :P Hope you all had a GREAT time!!

Great shots from Harry, as usual. I'm still sorting through mine. Here's a teaser. I'll put my full album up on my facebook page but make it public so everyone can have a peek. Stay tuned. In the meantime, here's a teaser.

There's a LOT more where this came from....
-
Seems like a great time was had. I look forward to the pictures. I hope to revisit again in the future.

Cool.
Jealous.
Who's Flying V?
I don't recall seeing it on this site before.
-
Well,
everytime I go to this forum there are surprises....
That V bass is awesome...
Any info on that would be highly appreciated.....

Great pictures Harry & Sam! Looking forward to many more! Not to hijack the thread, but wanted to invite everyone to our Texas Gathering in Dallas June 8! This will be my 1st Gathering, I can't wait!
-
I would really love to see more pictures on that V bass......

+1 on the great pics! I hope everyone had a great time.
Rusty, you'll really enjoy your self. Bring an extra drool rag. (patent pending)
Mike

I definitely will Mike! I keep an extra microfiber towel in my road case! Doc Greene & I are driving up the night before & spending the night at the host's house so we will have a 24 hour gathering!

Great pictures of some amazing instruments! Thanks for posting!
-
I'd also like some info on the flying V.
-
This was the first time that I was able to make it up to the Gathering! Great fun and great times meeting lots of these long time club members in person.
I managed to literally wear out my DSLR a couple of months ago and haven't bought a new one yet, so I was limited to iPhone shots, so I'll let those with better cameras post.
This confab was in a new location (a 4-point shot away from the Oracle Coliseum in Oakland, go Warriors!). In the directions sheet, Mica mentioned that she would post some signage. The first shot on the thread is the real signage (well camouflauged behind a forklift, but that's another story). When you pulled up to the specified address, there was this sign, which is probably apt, if you're willing to turn the irony up to 11:

Lots of interest about the Flying V bass. The pictures do it no justice - the top is the most beautiful piece of purpleheart I've ever seen, with grain running parallel to the wings. It's short scale and really intense sounding. There was a lot of thought about the size and placement of everything. Quite amazing!

Is there a build record of the Flying V ?
-
Yeah, I agree that my pics don't do justice to that Flying V and I'm hoping Mica has some of her top notch build photos to share. It was a real show-stopper. But so were some of the other one-of-a-kind instruments.
Here's my photo album on facebook that is accessible to the general public. Of course, I welcome you all to friend me, if you're so inclined.

Sam,
many thanks for the photos.
They are great.....
Oliver (Spyderman)
-
great photos guys. I'm jealous as hell but I reckon it'll be a few years before i get back to the states again.
Graeme
p.s. I also think that flying V is gorgeous.
-
Nice! Thanks for sharing.
-
Same here Jacko I'd love to go there again in the future. Maybe a few of us from this side of the pond can co-ordinate a trip out there together in a few years time.
Jazzyvee

Yeah, would love to join the european chapter
visiting the mothership....
Oliver (Spyderman)
-
Really sorry that gigging kept me away this time. I'm going to obnoxiously insist that Mica make good on her threat to do a Mothership gathering later this year!
-
Thanks for the compliments, Oliver. If you, Graeme and Jazzyvee could coordinate coming over to this side of the pond for next year that would really be fantastic.
Or...I know the time differential might be weird, but how about a Skype hookup so we could walk around with a laptop or iPad and you could see and hear what's going on in real time? Now THAT would be way cool....
-
Great pics Sam; thanks! One note, where you mentioned the age of #10, I think you meant 40 rather than 20.
-
I added a couple of recordings from my phone on Sound Cloud. You can get a little glimpse of the day here:
http://soundcloud.com/micat/alembic-jam (http://soundcloud.com/micat/alembic-jam)
Working on videos to share this year too!
-
Thank you for the aural experience Mica!!!!
I think that there needs to be a designated sound/video person during the jam sessions to aid in the less fortunate blokes like me that can't get to gatherings to actually hear what's happening!!
Once again...Thank you!!!!
Chalie

Mica,
Thanks for the soundcloud link ! I had a completely superb time . I am so very grateful to have had this opportunity to participate in this event . It was awesome to see the familiar faces again and also to meet a few new faces in person . I left looking forward towards next time !
-
Who was playing guitar on Goin' Down the Road? That was an awesome jam!!!!
-
Thanks for the audio Mica!
-
Hey everyone, I finally got a minute to post today. First, thanks to Mica, Will and john for setting up the gathering at that incredible studio! My band, wife and I really enjoyed ourselves. Here's a few pics that my wife took of My band when we jammed, then the impotant pictures of the works of art that were there. Me with Gwathnar

It was great seeing some familiar faces, and meeting some news ones too. Hoping the Mothership Gathering becomes a reality.

I've got a couple more pictures, this time action shots. Here's Wolf and our host Will:
And here is Nate playing his Series I small body through the "house amp":
I had the pleasure of playing drums with Nate and Matt on guitar - we had a nice jam, started funk, went spacy/reggae, then hit hard again at the end. Nate's bass sounded great - fat and clear!
-
Posted right after Ken - hey Ken! Good to see you again - bass sounded great in the control room!
-
Ken; it is very nice to hear that your wife was there!
-
I can vouch for the control room sound regarding Ken, Harry, Wolf, Nate, et al. But they all sounded equally great just being in the actual room with them.
Thanks for the clarification, Dave Houck. Missed you and your cool vibe. Which reminds me. I'm admittedly ignorant of many of the particulars of these instruments in my facebook picture album. PLEASE let me know the specs so I can edit the captions. I have many friends who either are not musicians or are unfamiliar with Alembic and I want to expose them all to the magic that the rest of us get to experience. Thanks!
-
Jonathan:
Matt on lead, me on rhythm, Wolf on bass, and Will on drums.
Bill, tgo
-
Great jam!
:-D
-
Bill,
I loved the way your rhythm playing complimented Matt's lead work. Not just simple chord strumming. Very Bobby-esque. I think it's difficult to do.
-
Here's another pic from the gathering:
Just kidding! Yesterday was the Bay Area Ric Confluence (BARC - it was almost called Bay Area Ric Fest = BARF) in San Rafael, just a week after the Alembic one! I'm posting partly because I'm hoping this will give the bump needed to get other people to post some pics, but also because it's kind of a neat pic of a couple of cool basses...
