Title: Cincinnati, anyone?
Post by: 811952 on October 02, 2009, 06:47:42 PM
Anyone interested in a Cincinnati gathering?  I live 3+ hours away, but it seems that might be a convenient locale for many..

Thoughts?

I am close enough for Alembic Rock and Roll -- depending on the date and other madness on my plate.

Certainly a consideration depending on the schedule and date. ROAD TRIP (5+ hours)!

Art; from my house it's six hours, plus however long it takes to get wherever in city traffic.

I have plans to be in Springboro which is close enough to swing to Cincinnatti for an afternoon.

Right now I can only say sometime in February and possibly later this year that I will be near there.

If an event coincides with my visiting to the area you know I won't miss it!

I guess we need to find somebody in Cincinnati who'd be able to set something up?

I'd be down for Cincinnati, for sure!  That's about an hour, hour and a half closer for me than New Jersey.  I have a couple of friends who live there- one is a friend of Bootsy Collins, but I'm not sure how much pull I'd have with that one...

I'll keep checking this thread, and maybe I'll shoot Freekbass (my friend) an email and see if he has any ideas about where we could do it...

Peace;)

If it's around Christmas, I might be able to come. My folks live in West Chester and I am due to pay them a visit.

I may have some potential places in the works. A buddy of mine owns a music store that might be available.

I hope no one minds I am without an Alembic at this juncture in my life. I will be ordering a custom Skylark soon.

I don't mind.  I'm without mine at the moment as well, but it's in the safe and capable hands of a good friend in Cincinnati for a few months.  I can only imagine what Paul TBO would have to say about it, and about how I must treat my poor lovely wife...  ;)

Danny; a gathering in a music store, or other retail establishment, but especially a music store, should be when the store is closed to the public.  So, suggested dates may depend on your friend's store hours.

Hey, All!

I just emailed Bootsy Collins to see if Bootzilla Studios would possibly be available and if he'd be able to do a quick Meet & Greet.

We'll see...  Cross your fingers!

I still haven't heard anything back from Bootsy.  I think I'll email my friend, Freekbass- he's good friends with Bootsy, and he might be able to get ahold of him easier.  Did you guys have a date in mind, yet?

Peace;)

I'm in Fairfield, just outside the Cincy city limits.  I would definitely be there!  And willing to help if needed.

I live on the West Side of Cincinnati, and I'll be there!  I'd be willing to help with miscellaneous arrangements, though since I've not been to a gathering before, I'd have to lean on some of the veterans to get me started...

The only down side for me is that my Spoiler is in need of some repairs - a knob and electronics work.  Anyone know of a good place in town to trust with my wooden baby?

Rijon; what kind of issues are you having with your Spoiler?
Title: Cincinnati, anyone?
Post by: jameso9 on October 12, 2009, 03:12:42 PM
Hi rijon, I had an electronics problem with my Distillate in 1991 and took it to the best place I knew at the time, 'Secret Service'.  They found and replaced a bad IC in the onboard preamp.  Only 43 bucks and I've never had any other problems since.

A couple of years ago I heard they were still around, but the G-men made them change their name.  They were off of Colerain near the Cross County Hwy last I knew.  I'll see if I can confirm they're still around and under what name.

Rijon, JT -
If this does take place just remember to bring your instrument for the picture:

I would say the guy on Colerain is good but take it to Uncle Rusty at Midwest first. He has been an Alembic owner and is occasionally in contact with the mothership. If you need his number let me know.

Rijon, I believe they're currently called 'Expert Electronics', 6146 Colerain Ave., 513-923-9200.  They used to do most of the repairs for the local music stores, thus the original name Secret Service.  Although I haven't needed any work done in a long time, that was THE place to go around here.

Hi Danny, you're right Midwest was the first place I found, when I moved to Cincy years ago, that sold Alembics.  They also had an extensive repair shop.

Pauldo... nice pic!  I'll certainly add my two to the mix.

Rijon,

No, I haven't heard anything from Chris or Bootsy.  I've got Chris Sherman's number in my cell phone, I might just give him a call, in the next few days.  If we had a tentative date, even, that would help our cause in checking to see if Bootzilla Studios and Bootsy, himself were available...

As soon as I get ahold of Chris and get some kind of lowdown, I will let everyone know.

Peace;)

hey keavin

depends on how you are counting rows.  may be my SII QCB.  either way, cinci isn't all that far for the CHGO crew.  if the weather is right, we may be able to top the Bag End gathering (especially if Moder Dave and Art and others from the East will drive in).

all I'm saying is that I definitely maybe might be up for another gathering.

Is there anything I can do to help make this happen?  I might have a venue... a fairly large recording studio (w/bar room etc.).  Just north of the 275 loop.  It could turn into a good jam as well, with all the equipment in place.

My unsolicited $.02

Set a date and then email the people in the thread who have previously expressed interest (but who may not be board regulars or who may miss the post).  I think this is one of those, if you build it, they will come type of moments.

Shoot- even if you only get 3 or 4 who can attend, it would be a hoot.

I know it's been a few years, and I'm new to the club, but it would be nice to try to revive a gathering in Cincinnati. Is there any interest in trying to put something together?
