we must see Rusty's new bass
-
Could fix that if he'd just send it to my house. Wait a few months then I'd pass it along. Works for me.
-
I could do that Michael, but then we would miss all the fun & fellowship that goes with a Texas Gathering! I'm ready to show off my new prize & get some Series II tweaking lessons for those who have experience with those electronics. The call has been sounded, let those who have ears hear the call & respond! David, John, Olie, Doc, Wayne, Michael, Robert.....ect! Let's make it happen!
-
Hey Lone Star 'Lembicians, anyone there??? It's time to integrate some color into our congregation & let me show off my new Blue Orca! This bass is incredible, but I am a rookie at Series II electronics so I want to hear someone play it who knows what they are doing & can show me the way! Let's start tossing some dates around.
-
I'm in for a gathering, who's got the e-mail list.
David T
-
I sent out an email to everyone who was at the last Gathering & so far only have replies from Doc & Mike.
-
Hey Dallas.....it's time!!!
-
lets do it!!!!!
-
Hey John & Michael, roust up all the Dallas bunch & lets get this going! :-)
-
Can I come???
-
Absolutely George! You can stay at my house!

Absolutely George! You can stay at my house!

But I'm not from Texas and I speak with a strange accent
-
... I speak with a strange accent
So do people from Texas!
hehehehe
Bill, tgo

I'm not sure how Americans hear my accent as on my first visit to New York in the early 80's someone asked me where my accent was from as they thought it was German. Then on a later trip in the late 90's to Milwaukee, I was told in a jewellers shop that I sound just like Prince Charles....!!!! Neither of which is anything close to my midlands tinged accent.
I'm hoping to get to another of the meets some day maybe when I finally find a series shorty.
-
German!!!!! Believe me, Jazzy, you sound properly British on this side of the pond. But then again, so did the Beatles. Unless one has close experience, it can be hard to detect different incarnations of a similar accent. For example, most Californians can detect a New York accent, but are unable to discriminate between a Bronx vs. Brooklyn vs. Long Island accent, as native New Yorkers easily do.

Jazzyvee , _____ JA ,Du bist ganz bestimmt ein Englander !
-
George, you don't have to be from Texas, last time we had a foreigner all the way from Oklahoma! LOL! Besides, I love your accent!
-
And I thought Texas was just South Oklahoma
-
Well David, these days Texas is more like Northern Mexico, but that's a whole different discussion! The location of the Gathering doesn't define the attendants, we are all Alembic Brothers! :-)
-
Hey, you guys can argue all you want about accommodations... just hurry up and pick a date, so I can plan on seeing Orca!!!!!!
-
I think June 20 may be the date, more to come
-
David, I haven't sent out an email yet, but while waiting for everyone to commit to June 20, my band got a booking. If that is the only date we can meet I will just have to leave by 2 or 3 to get to my gig on time.
-
@ growlypants and tncavemnn, email sent to the accounts listed in your profiles.

Invitation to the brethren - It's on this Saturday in Plano. Come one, come all! Just bring your Alembic! We'll have 5 - count'em - 5 COTMs together, along with 4 or 5 premium rigs including at least a couple in stereo (hear how Father Wickersham intended your bass to be heard). I'll be unveiling my stereo rig with an original ELF integrator and a pair of Bag End S18s. Let me know if you'd like to join and I'll get you details via email. Several of the guys have volunteered spare bedrooms for out of towners, and lunch is on us, so you just need to get here!

Excuse the lousy size; New iPhone, forgot to check the camera settings, errrrg. We had some new guests; tried some new basses. I had a great time. Wonderful day, today. And Yes, Rusty's "Orca" is as beautiful to play as it is to admire.
-
Cool!!!
-
I am looking forward to hear more Texas stories and to see more Texas pictures !
-
I had to go straight from Dallas to Katy to play tonight but I will post my pictures tomorrow. I had a great time seeing everyone & meeting new friends! I think we had over 20 Alembics plus a Ritter, Fender Jazz, & Dan Electro!
-
So cool!

Here's all of the Alembic basses, sans owners. Custom basses upfront, I think you can recognize a few of them. From left: The Unicorn, the Alpha Omega, Ocra, John's custom Series, and Wayne's Started with frets until . . . fretless Series (aren't pistol grip horns so cool?). Custom or not, each bass has something different to offer a player. Veritable candy shop.
We also had our first ever guitar: an Exploiter; far right, back row.
-

Not the best angle, but here are three Exploiters. L to R: eight string bass, four stringer and the previously mentioned guitar.
Oh, yeah. That's the infamous spalted-maple, 3/4 size MK off to the left. And yes, it's still in Olie's possession.
-
In front of the Exploiters we have two Shorties. In no way do short scales lack in the bottom end?these babies have plenty. Super comfortable to play. SC Deluxe in the foreground and a Series version p just behind it.

Earlier in the day: Rusty with Olie's Alpha Omega.

I didn't get to take as many pictures this year because I had to leave early, but here is what I have -

We had 5 Featured Customs at our Gathering!

This is all the Alembic owners

Also in attendance was Michael Moore who brought his Geddy Lee Jazz Bass signed by Geddy, & Dwayne Heggars who plays bass for the Emerald City Band. Not pictured was Doc's friend Sandy who came up with Doc to play keys for our jam.

Craig Novak's Ritter bass was a big hit with the crowd. It played & sounded great!

We used my rig with my Accugroove Wedgie to test out the basses downstairs before taking them upstairs to the jam room with John's big rig.
John's Amazing stereo rig with an Elf system driving two 18's & another amp driving 2 Eden 2X10 cabinets. Mike aptly dubbed the rig the "Fracking Machine!" If you hear a news report about a house in Plano Texas collapsing, you will know that John turned his rig up past 2! This thing has some serious horsepower!!

Not only is Olie a killer bass player, he is a rock solid drummer too!

John is a wonderful host & he cooked up a great lunch for us!
David brought his Dan Electro "Longhorn" bass.

We didn't have enough stands to display all the basses at the same time, so here is Mike's signed Geddy Lee Jazz Bass.
-
I can't say enough about the generous and unreserved fellowship and hospitality that was shown yesterday. The Club is great, but this is tops.
In debt to John for opening up his home and making this possible. Quite the host and gentleman.
Now, can someone else post some images? I didn't take that many!
-
Ha! Thanks Rusty. That's what happens when you complain about something - it's usually being taken care of if you'd just hold your horses a little while longer.
-
Great friends, Great Basses, Great food, Great time, Thank you John for Hosting this Gathering, thank your wife for putting up with all of us. Can't wait to do it again

-
Wow guys look like a great time was had by all.
-
It was great fun . . . more playing this year but seemed like we were pressed for time. 18 Alembics, was hoping we might hit 21 but 3 didn't make it
-
Counting the other instruments around, another 6 guitars and another 6 basses, so 30 stringed instruments all told - not bad for 9 owners
Variety is the spice of life . . .
-
Or a sign that some of us may need a 12 step program for GAS . . . nah!
-
Great report! Thanks for sharing with us.
-
Great looking turnout!
-
Oh, the beautiful wood. Just luscious!
Bill, tgo
-
Verrrrrry nice! Fine looking crew there. It really warms the heart to see these get-togethers.
-
Great photos and an amazing display of Alembic art! Looks like a great time was had indeed.
