I really enjoyed my visit to the mothership and meeting members of the forum at the annual meet in 2012 and would love to come back again. To that end I put up a little survey on one of the Facebook groups earlier this year to see if there were any alembic owners outside USA who would be interested in attending the meet next year, 2017, as a group to make it more of a global affair.
There is some interest so I just wondered how practical it would be to fix a date for the 2017 in advance, preferably some time this year so there is enough time for us non USA residents to get ourselves organised and sort out accommodation and flights etc. I did offer to be the point of contact between us here, alembic and the Facebook forums so that we get one stream of information passing back and forth and less confusion.
I haven't asked the question about who would be bringing instruments. I doubt if I would be as I'd be making a 2 - 3 week holiday of it with my other half so don't relish carting instruments around the states for that time.
Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Hey V. Was that what you messaged me about on FB? Our home broadband is stuffed so I'll not see much on social media till next Wednesday at the earliest. As it happens we're planning our 30th anniversary trip for next year sometime and I've suggested a much longer stay in S.F.

Great idea, Vince! We could house some instruments here during a longer holiday - you could swing by at the start and end of the trip.

Usually I like to gather us all up in April or May, as the weather is best for the location (later in the year is gets wickedly hot!). I'll find out from our host if we can reserve the ranch waaaaay in advance.

I'm in, maybe FC wants to join?

Just a reminder to see how practical it would be to get a date fixed for next year so some of us alembic geeks from outside the USA can plan ahead. I'd like to bring the Dragon Magic with me to breath some fire into the proceedings but I need to find out about getting permits due to the materials in it. If you have any advice or can point me to some useful documentation I would need that would be a great help. I really don't want it confiscated. :-)

Jazzy, bringing my guitar back, huh? (Remember, I won it on eBay!)

Hmmm...
Bring the Series I for upgrade to SII, current hf noise specs and showing it off to the fellow members. Tempting! :D
But I doubt I can make it, unemployed for a while now so I don't think I can afford the trip...

So if you won it on Ebay, how come I bought it from a shop in Texas?
-
I didn't say the "seller" actually owned the guitar. I won it in an eBay auction and then received an email from Mica informing me that the auction was fraudulent (thankfully before I hit the "pay" button). That's how I met Mica.

Ok I understand now. I took it on a gig Saturday night and loved playing it. First guitar gig I've had in a long time.

I'd be up for this in CA. As with the international folks, I'd need a lot of advance notice to plan for this, BUT . . . I bet I could get a crew from OK and TX to rent a van and road trip it which would allow us to include a half dozen or more Alembicians and probably a dozen or more instruments. ;D

I'm in! So many people from around the world that I would love to meet!

Any more thoughts about this? There is a new live music venue in Santa Rosa called Rock Star University that is a teaching/studio recording business along with "House of Rock" live music venue. I have no affiliation with them, but I did talk to them about shooting a video for my tribute band a few months back. The venue has a variety of shows ever few weeks. Mostly 80's/90's hard rock with some blues, jazz or tribute, too. The next shows are Winger, Foghat + Gamma, and a ZZ Top tribute band.
The Reason I'm bringing this venue up is 3 reasons:
- House of Rock is in Santa Rosa - 6 miles or 13 mins away from Alembic HQ
- they have a large stage, with backline amps and drums, video, pro-tools recording gear, and can either rent out the facility for a private event, or open the doors to a public event.
- for an international Alembic gathering - this could be a good place to host the event, feature a few performers or special guests, have a benefit show, and record audio and video to share with the friends of Alembic.
I bet if you planned this the week before NAMM - like Sunday Jan 15 - you could get more people who might be able to add an Anaheim trip to NAMM 2017 to their travel itinerary too.
Just a thought in case someone else did not have a better idea.
