Howdy everybody. I've been a member for a long time, read the posts daily, but interact fairly infrequently. I'm kind of the introspective type, as it were. In my day gig I'm a network engineer, and it still amazes me after twenty years doing this stuff that two computers can fire a signal across a wire at each other and it actually means something that the other can react to. It's like being a bass player, for sure, and seeing an audience react to your bass-line. I mean, we all know that those folks ain't dancin' to the guitar player, or even the drummer, they're dancing to us, the low-enders, the butt-movers and pant-flappers! I live in the Pacific Northwest where the micro-brew reigns supreme, and if that isn't enough, the wine industry up here makes some of the best world-class vino available. It's enough to make your liver quiver! I've been an Alembic owner since '98 and a fan since '74 when I first heard Stan-The-Man. My own playing style more closely resembles Duck Dunn, a killer finger-style R&B player if there ever was one. I'm also from Memphis, TN. Anyway, this place is an amazing collection of musicians, even bass players, and I'm glad I found it! Have fun, Reid.

hey thats so true us bass players are heart and soul of the band we get the most attention,we get the most, @#$%%^ &,and we're responsable for the overall sound of the group,(we are the band!)with out us there is no gig

Hi Reid! I recognized your screen name on a post sometime in the last week. I remembered seeing it before. It is amazing the conversations that start and unfold on this and other sites can literally span the globe. Who'd have imagined that technology would bring together people who otherwise would never meet, but who SHOULD! Because we have something really cool in common!
Kind of mindboggling and nice at the same time. Glad to hear what you're thinking and a little about your influences and experience. Don't be a stranger...

Hey Keavin, I always figured that if the drummer is the engine, the bass player is the drive train, we're where the rubber meets the road and drives the whole thing forward. BTW, I've got one of my Orion's back at the Mothership in Santa Rosa, and one of the mod's I having done was inspired by your Old #12. I'm having a gold logo and script installed on the headstock, but I'm having the bronze logo installed down at the point of the body, it has the Standard Point type. Have a good one!

Hi Bill, an actual useful purpose for Internet connectivity is learning songs! Being able to email tunes to the other guys in the band sure makes getting a set list together easier! Later...

Hi Reid: That too! And so many other things that make it easier to communicate without always having to be there in person. Being able to Email music is such a time-saver.
