Hey everybody I just got Alembic #2. A Mark King 5 with a medium scale neck. I'm also one of those guys with short fingers and other things. Alembic #1 is a 1982 Distillate also with a 32 inch scale. I decided I wanted a 5 a couple of years ago and bought another brand and absolutely hated it. The Mark King is a superb guitar and the voicing is incredible. I've only played it a few times, but wow what sound. Peace

Hello Al, welcome to the club! Congratulations with your second Alembic. One warning though: this sweet addiction to all things Alembic will only increase because of you joining the happy, curious, wise and in some cases positively crazy bunch of people the Alembic Club consists of. Don't be scared of a few Pauls from various parts of the world who'll certainly come screaming PICTURES, PICTURES, PICTURES! in a few moments. But, if you have some pictures of your beloved instruments digitally available, you might want to post them here and/or in the Showcase section...
Regards,
Wilfred

Hi Al welcome to the club. Has anyone mentioned pictures yet? We do like to admire the treasures of others. BTW where is Greenville in relation to Rockford? I spent many good years there.

Hi Al
Welcome to the club. I am new myself and I must say these guys are great. I was having a dilema choosing which Mark King to have custom built along with deciding which options I would add. I was close to jumping out my bedroom window (on the first floor) when Bill and others came to the rescue and talked me down! I am in the waiting process like a few others here on the board, but this is my second Alembic so I do have some relief! Don't forget to post pictures soon.

Hello Al,
Not to worry, old guys are welcome (as well as young). All we require is an appreciation of beautiful craftsmanship and astounding tone, and the amazing diversity that comprise Alembic instruments.

Hey Gang,
I'll post some photos as soon as I get hold of a digital camera. I don't know yet how I'll decide which one to play, as I've been off since I got the new one. I start playing again next weekend so I'll have to make some decisions soon. I haven't had the Distillate out of it's case since I got the Mark King, but my next gig is a throw together outdoor gig so I might play the Distillate, but you never know. Peace

al,
How is the balance with the medium scale on a standard body? What are the woods on the bass so we can imagine it until we can see it.
congrats,

You can still see pics of the MK5 at Bass Central's website. It's the only medium scale MK5 they have at the moment, and a beautiful piece of wood. This link will get you close...

Hey Gang,
I've had the new Mark King for a few weeks and played several jobs with it. It sounds and plays exceptionally well. The only use the Distillate gets is when I tune and our keyboard player does the Big Bottom Bass thing. The balance is good for me and the medium scale works for me on the B. Some one asked about the wood. It's Flamed Walnut and has red side LEDs. The thing really cuts through on stage when you want or sounds great in the pocket. I'm sure I will play the Distillate again, but not for a while. I am getting my daughter a digital camera for college graduation. Before it give it to her I will take some pics of both basses and post them. Peace
Al
