Hi,
I'm Don. Been playing for 25 years. professionally for 17. Just bought my first alembic. I've been playing Smith basses forever.
Ilove the Alembic tone and vibe.
 
I teach about 10 students. I play in a trio doing original jazz and funk. I also play bluegrass with my wife. I also play solo with a 12th century poetry reading belly dancer.
 
Finally after all of these years I have come to alembic. Noe need to look further I suppose.

We certainly don't get enough poetry here in the club, so nice to have you on board.
 
Not sure if the belly button wouldn't be too much of a distraction for me - guess if you wanna keep time you gotta keep your eyes on the fingerboard, right? Indeed: no need to look further.

Hi Don.  Hemingway is a good name for an Epic. Mine is Cuchullian.  That's only for formal occasions though. Usually it's just the Alembic.
I'm trying to picture a solo bass with a belly dancing poet.  That's got to be great to experience.

DZ, I'm not sure you should give up looking just yet.  While an Epic is head and shoulders above most basses, it is near the entry level of the Alembic line.  I suspect that if you get your hands on a signature or series model, that you will be blown away yet again.  These instruments are just incredibly capable and they really allow you to control your sound with your fingers much more than any other basses I have played.  The difference between playing near the  bridge vs. near the end of the neck is huge, and the dynamics are amazing.
 
Congratulations on your new bass, and keep your eyes open.  There are a couple Alembic dealers that aren't too far from you, stop in if you get the opportunity.  You never know what you'll find!

Congratulations on your new epic i also have an epic and i think they are the best things in the world although i have always fancied a Smith.
 
You have done a great job of building your own bass you must post more pictures of it.
