Hello i'm not an Alembic owner yet but I'm working on it (if I can covince my wife) I play a Jazz at this time but I'm saving for a Mark King Standard maybe in 5A quilt
-
Sorry I misspelled convince

Welcome; take your shoes off and sit a spell.

Welcome to the club and good luck on the MK. BTW, if you need to change a post you can click on the pencil and paper icon at the upper right corner of your post and edit it.

Hi davr35,
Be sure to keep us informed of your progress...after your recovery, then you can let us know when you can order the MK. Just a bit of humor.
Welcome,
Darrell

Hello David
Glad you could join us. The MK is a good choice. That's next on my wish list. Although my personal taste runs towards the darker woods or Zebrawood, the 5A quilted maple will be stunning. Are you thinking of the standard body shape or the new Balance K?
Sam
-
I'm thinking of the Balance K Omega with contours. I love that shape. I have always wanted an Alembic but that new body shape has pushed me over the edge I have got to have one.... maybe my wife will not notice a new bass around the house

Hey Dave, welcome to the club.
You might start hinting to senior management (the term for wives around here) about how you've always wanted a Porsche and you've reached the time of your life to seriously consider getting one. Leave some brochures around, maybe a Road & Track opened to a Porsche ad. After a few days of this, tell her how much you love her and you've decided to get youself an Alembic instead - much cheaper than the Porsche - and use some of the saved $ to buy her some jewelry.
Just a thought.
Bill, the guitar one
-
Brother Bill TGO ...THAT scheme has a fair chance to work out wrong. Most senior managements -depends how senior and how management they are- DO LIKE Porsches.
Now if you change Porsche by Yamaha Z1200 (or whatever speedmacdhine suitable for men in middle age) it WILL work.
Paul the bad one
BTW ...don't try it with Harley ...Brother Paul the fake one (the artist formerly know as Dino) can witness THAT story!
-
Why not an Alembic AND a Harley? You'd still come out cheaper than a Porsche, though not by much.
Sam
-
Well senior management won't let me get the Harley either so I might push that angle.. the Porsche thing would not work as she has it picked out already
Dave
-
Dave,
Just be honest about your desire to own a lifelong dream, and how you've always wanted one, and how much of a better husband it would make you. Eventually she'll break down and give in...maybe...God Speed...
Darrell
-
Good luck convincing your wife
Buying an Alembic bass will make you happy so you should have one as you will feel better about everything everytime your play it and You cant put a price on that.
try that it might work
Andrew

davr35,
Here's another angle...get his and her's matching alembic basses.
-
Dave,
What I did about 2 years ago was I e-mailed my wife about 2 weeks before my birthday the link to the Starry Night Featured custom, as a sort of joke (Hint Hint in the title, etc.) Her response almost made me fall over: So, which model do you want? Six months later, we actually went up to Alembic to pick woods for the bass. It CAN happen...
Ken (TEO)
-
Mmmmm ....Ken na -ah.
Your wife must be Elf, the Susan/Mica kind.
We marry plain wifes and Alembic is the site most closely to hell here on earth.
99% of all fights and quarrels I have have the word guitar in it.
Paul the bad one
-
My wife has agreed to let me buy a used Alembic so the search is on..
-
Hay David,
Good luck with your search, you should be able to come up with somthing real nice.
This is how it starts. one leads to two, next thing you know your on your way to the Betty Ford Clinic.
BOL.
Doug
-
David,
So now that you have one of the few ultimate kitchen passes, have you narrowed your choice down to any specific model aside from what you previously listed?
Peace,
Darrell
-
Not really, I plan on going to Bass Central soon and trying out what they have to see what I like and what I don't and go from there I live in the New Orleans area so it would be a nice little weekend for me and my wife I plan on taking my time and find one that is right for me
Dave
-
Sounds like a good plan Dave, have fun and keep us posted.
Peace,
Darrell
-
Dave,
Congratulations, and post some pics when you get home!
(Beaver, Grasshopper, & Perry at BC are super people to deal with, and will give you a great price if you see something from their extensive Alembic inventory that you like, so let us know what you picked out!)
