Since a few days I belong to the fortunate owners
of a Alembic 83 Spoiler.
Hope to enjoy this bass even more in the years to
come, the Spoiler is a perfect match to my fretless custommade bass
I wonder what kind a finish was used on the massive Koa body in order to restore it properly ?
-
Hi Leslie; congrats and welcome!
-
Leslie, enjoy your Spoiler and welcome to the best club on the 'net.

Congrats & get used to being spoiled!

Hi GJM, I'm afraid you won't be able to restore the polyester finish at all because the layers do not melt together. If it is in bad shape, sanding the old paint off and refinishing is the only option.
-
Hi Mica
Thanks for your information about the kind of finish which is used on the Spoiler.
When the bass is restored i'll mail some pics.

Hi Lesley, welcome. That old koa wood should come out real nice. I think I would be afraid to touch her though if she is sounding good as she is.
I like the look of a road hard put away wet Alembic. You don't see many old warriors.
I'm heading down to Bike Week and strangely enough I'm drawn to the old war horse looking bikes. Hmmm..... probably because that describes me.

Hey G.J.M.
Welcome to the club. I'll second J.Gary's vote for the vintage look. I have a '61 Strat that's been played a lot - patches of wood showing though the yellowed Olympic White. My wife thinks it's butt ugly, but through my eyes it's undeniably gorgeous. With a Username like Lesley Hammond you must also be a member of the Rotary Club! LOL

Congratulations on the new bass. You mentioned mailing pictures after it's restore. Could you post some pre-restoration as well as post-restoration photos? We are a photo hungry group.
J Gary
Are you flying to Daytona or driving? Driving from Michigan probably won't bring you through Jacksonville but if you find yourself in the area give me a shout.

Rotary Club !!! Somebody buy that guy a beer.
-
Hi
I like old things as well as new things, so I thank you all for your advises which will be considered.
As for the Rotary club, you're pretty close,
besides playing bass, I'm also an addicted fan
of the old rotary boxes called Leslies in combination with a Hammond tonewheel organ, it's
not the rotary club but the Dutch Hammond club and now the Alembics too.
I'll keep the invitation for the beer in mind,
cheers!

Hello Lesley,
Welcome to the club!!! I used to own a 1984 Alembic Spoiler 4-string, which was my very first Alembic bass guitar. Mine had a quilted maple top and it sounded great, so I know that yours sounds great as well!!!
Take care,
Ronnie
