Title: Hi, y'all
Post by: ggunn on August 23, 2006, 02:16:19 PM
Got my first Alembic, finally, a few months ago.  It's just an Epic 5 string (entry level), and it's got a few miles on it, but it's the Real Deal.  It's great to finally find out for myself what all the fuss was about!

Anyway, it's a great matchup with my old SVT.  I'm a happy camper.

Hey, Gordon. Welcome to the Club! Epics are true Alembics and that means the very best of basses. An Epic through that SVT is a thumper, I'm sure!

Welcome to the club Gordon. When you get some courage, please post a picture of you and your Epic. We all love pictures here! BTW, your entry level Epic is genuine ALEMBIC through and through. I owned a few top end Alembics and a very bizarre custom, and my Epic has the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail as the most expensive and elaborate Alembic money can buy. That's because the same wonderful artists make them all with love and magic. My Epic has a thin veneer under the fingerboard just like a Series 1. All hardware has threaded inserts, and all covers fit into precision milled pockets. No hack craftsmanship. Open up the control cavity and check out the electronics. This is not what you find in the cheap Asian copy guitars. Silver paint conductive shield, gold contacts, trim pot gain adjust, printed circuit board. Some of these features the BIG companies feel are too costly to mass produce, so you won't find them on their guitars. Pity, you won't find my hands on their guitars either! Enjoy it, play it, and soon you won't be able to look back either!

Hello, Gordon,

welcome to the club. I can only second what David and Kris said. Kris: what do you mean with bizarre custom ??? (hohoho).

All the best to all of you,

Christian (the faker)

Hi Gordon and welcome from this side of the pond. Your Epic is a very worthy Alembic, (I should know), and it will turn the head of even the most hardened fan of f****r ;-)

Gordan
Nice to meet you.  You'll love the Epic.  I have a 4 string and couldn't be happier with it.  I'm also an ex-pat from the Republic of Texas now living in the Sunshine State.  One other thing, pictures!  These guys will start banging beer bottles on tables until you post some.

Someone mention beer? This has now become an official Alembic enjoyment thread. All it needs now is a motorbike;-)

Gordon, welcome to the club and congrats on the Epic.  It's good to see an Austin stage on your website.  I'm also an RoT ex-pat.  But, as Stevie Ray Vaughn said, I couldn't stand the weather.  I do miss the Austin music scene though.  I grew up an hour north of Austin and was there as much as I could manage.
Absolutely no reason to apologize for having an Epic.  I think we all secretly (or admittedly) aspire toward Series ownership but there are no Squires in the Alembic stable.

Hi Gordon, and welcome.
Ah, another satisfied Epic player (I've got two). And yes, yes to pictures.

Gordon, beautiful quilt on it.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do my Epic 5.

Gordon,
Congrats on a fine looking bass! I know it sounds as good as it looks! It looks a lot like my Europa 6 string! Maple tops make the bass really bright sounding. Enjoy it!

Superb looking bass Gordon. Could almost be a twin of mine here (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=9045)

Thanks, guys.  Yeah, I really love it.  Every once in a while you acquire a piece of gear that makes a marked and immediate improvement in all aspects of your playing.  The Epic did that for me. My old Ibanez ATK (hiding behind the Yammy in the first picture) was a decent bass, but the Epic was a huge step up for me.  I found the ATK a good home; it would have been unfair to hold onto it and never play it again.  ;^)

Good point Gordon.
The Alembic bass WILL make you a better player all around. You'll be S.T.R..e.t.c..h.e.d beyond what you've accomplished in the past. I find myself so much more eager to play in new and exciting ways that I play more often, and think about playing it when I'm not. You'll see!
