Title: Hi from a "potential" UK owner
Post by: pukie on September 30, 2010, 07:27:00 AM
Hello,

Been lurking here for some time , but the slightest hint that someone in the UK might be considering selling forced me to reveal my cover.

Retired from playing the bass ages ago, (just playing guitar, badly, around the house) then for some reason I can't remember, I started listening to Alembics on YouTube. Then I got out my basses again.....

And So now, After years of resisting temptation.... I... er... NEED.... a 5-string bass.

And after a Warwick (although GB Rumours look tempting), I figure the only place to go  must be an Alembic.
My current thinking it will have to be used as I'm not going to get a new one past She who must be obey'ed
I knew I should have bought one when I worked in L.A. 10 years ago!

Current stuff: Warwick NT Thumb, White '78 PBass

Wishlist:      Alembic 5 String, EBS ValveDrive (I think)

Luke,

Hello Luke and welcome to the club.
I hope you succeed in finding your 5-string Grail. Others from the UK will be along shortly to suggest search options, I'll wager.

Hi Luke; I entirely agree, the only place to go is Alembic!

There is nothing best than playing an Alembic, Luke. They are totaly diferent beast and the problem will be that you may decide to give the Warwick away after getting your A-Dream, hahaha...

Hi Luke and welcome to the club from sunny Scotland.(although I'm an ex-pat englishman).

You may find a 5 string epic or orion will crop up sometime. I bought my epic in 1996 after trying out a whole bunch of five strings including warwick, tobias and status.  At the time, the Epic was the cheapest of Alembic's range but it still knocked 7 bells out of the competition.

in fact there's a rather tasty orion 5 in the for sale (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=14444) section right now. It's in Belgium but that's easier than if it was in the states.
