Hello - I'm a new owner of a '98 Rouge 4-string.  I luckily found it this past week and this message board helped me answer a few questions about the bass.    I'm a long time owner/player of a '75 Rickenbacker 4001 that I dearly love (Is this a proper thing to do???)  I got my Rick in 1981 and mostly just played with the guys in the neighborhood. Nothing serious, just for fun.  Never took bass lessons but did have a good guitar teacher for a while.    Anyway, always wanted an Alembic.  Greg Lake and Stanly Clarke were 2 big influences and were my introduction to the brand when I was a teenager.    I actually did not play more than once a year between college and about 2005 when I started playing guitar in our church's praise band.  When our bass player left for other pursuits, I dusted off Rick and started playing the low notes again.  It took a while, but it finally came back and have been loving it ever since.  The Alembic I purchased is a '98 Rouge with the following specs: Ser# 98Q11530 Flame Maple Top Pearl Heart Accent Mahogany Body Maple/walnut neck Ebony Fingerboard  I set it up yesterday with George - the local guitar guru.  It's so smooth!  I love my Rick, but this instrument was so easy to play.  And VERY comfortable.  Here are a couple of pics.  I'll probably post up a few questions after I search the site.  Probably the biggest Q is how many of these were made?

Thanks for the welcome.  Me and Rickypoo (the name my daughter gave my Rick) go waaaay back.  The new axe is really fun to play.  Actually seems like I'm faster and smoother than before?  I just need some lessons or something to help me improve.  I have literally forgotten every thing I learned 25 to 30 years ago.

            Nice Bass. With that upper  horn it would appear that there is no question of balance. Sustain block. Brass  cover plates on the back. She has got it all . Not to mention an awesome electronics package.

Just like a Les Paul, I always think maple over mahogany is one of the great 'all-around' recipes:  The whack of maple and ebony leavened by the mahogany.  I also think flame maple doesn't show up enough on these things, wish they usd it more.  Nice axe.  I'm in East Nashville, shoot me an EMail sometime, Congrats !

Welcome aboard Stephen, we all know you'll need to share your love with a new Bass now, you can't help it. I remember going to music store just to try how that Alembic feels a little bit and next thing I remember was getting my credit card to own my Rogue. If you put your hands on one, you can't leave it away. I can't stop playing it since that day...

Thanks for the welcomes.  One of the best things that has happened is more practicing and getting my old chops back.  
 
An unanticipated bonus is that my son is playing more also.  He's 13 and just started playing my cheapie Gretch short scale bass.  He's playing to our practice recordings (church praise band) and to some Zeppelin!  (what a range in music)
