Surely so many have seen my countless posts looking for my first Alembic. The spoiler was the one that seemed to draw me in the most, from the menacing body shape to the killer tone to the list of huge heroes of mine that used them.. (Pete steele jason newsted, Cliff burton, Paulo pinto).. I was ready to give up, no lefties seemed to exist, and being a high school senior finishing up my tenure in school, I'm unable to work full time yet to afford a custom build.... When low and behold, someone on the board recently received a lefty spoiler as an inheritance and was selling it, messaged me, and within the month it was mine! I'm now the proud owner of it and it's the best bass I've ever used. I'm hooked on Alembic now, but with all i went through to find this and it being my first even if it's not the only one in my life someday it'll always mean the most to me.

Xero, Welcome aboard from another fellow lefty Alembic owner. Sorry I'm late with my greeting. The wonderful team at Alembic is very kind to us and do make quite a few lefties, the hard part is finding them as you found out. Most lefties do not give up an instrument easily; it is usually for dire financial issue, an upgrade or death. It sounds morbid but I own two basses that were sold after a family member's passing and that will be the only way my instruments leave me!
Years ago I saw a picture of a lefty Gibson on the internet in a small store, I had no interest in the Gibson but and I noticed another lefty behind it, hidden, blurry but enough to catch my interest. I called the store, a gentleman had passed and his the widow was selling his basses. The store owner was not very familiar with Alembic, I got in the info (Orion with great flame walnut top and Europa electronics). I called Mica for a question or two, then called the store with a credit card number! about 10 minutes from start to finish once I saw it. Keep looking and welcome to the club. -Southpaw

5a quilt top... The picture of the bass in your profile is stunning! A beautiful bass well photographed from a unique angle. That picture needs to be framed and on a wall. Congrats if that is your bass. -Southpaw

> Oh my... Yours is the 5 string Orion right? I've been scouring all over for that one if so! Lucky! Perhaps shoot me an email to talk, maybe I can buy a body tracing of your Orion off of you
-
Southpaw - thanks for the compliment.
Yes, that amazing bass is alllll mine. She was christened Crown of Creation in honor of her inspiration: the formidable 72-01 originally built for Jack Casady.
There's some more info about her located in the Featured Custom archive - 4th instrument of the year.
Sorry for the brief infomercial hijack, we now return to our regularly-scheduled welcoming ceremonies.

> I'm obsessed with your bass, what a beauty. Shoot me an email, we can exchange bass pics, lol. If you ever consider selling (snowballs chance in hell!) let me know
-
Xero; No, my Orion is only 4 strings and purchased over ten years ago. Keep a look out as I am sure there are lefty 5 string Alembics to be found.
5a, enjoy playing that beautiful bass for many years to come! Along with being great instruments, Alembics are works of art too; wood sculptures perhaps...
