Hi... Everyone
Here are a few shots of my Zebrawood Skylark with Abalone ovals!
I am saving for another
-
Gorgeous! I thought at first it was the beautiful one at the Alembic Yahoo store right now, but I see it's not. That means the other one will continue to tempt me...and others.... :-)
It looks like your guitar has a lot of depth to the figuring. Some Zebrawood looks very flat, but yours shines.
How do you like it, sound-wise? 2vol/2filter must be a great combo in a guitar.

Beautiful Skylark Ivette. I too would like to hear your thoughts on its tone and feel, though, I assume you like it as you are saving for another.

Thanks.
It gets a very clear and warm tone. You can get a lot of different sounds out of it with the filters. Little movements on the filters make a big difference. It has an acoustic quality because of it's clarity and sustain. I love it. This is my first alembic, and I won't get anything else again. It's unbelievable. I saw the other zebrawood skylark at the alembic store too. That one was made after mine. It looks beautiful. I like the purpleheart outline on its top. It adds a nice touch.

It's about time we got some guitars posted in the showcase section. Seems like forever since the last! I believe it may have been you, right Hollis? Beautiful Skylark, Ivette. Hope you enjoy it. Welcome to the club on behalf of the other six stringers.
Regards,
Jonathan

Ivette, it sounds like you've found the one to keep!
I saw the oceanburst one is on sale (actually on-hold) at Resurrection Guitars:

One thing that struck me in their photos is that Alembic's site doesn't show the BACK of the Skylark. Ivette, can you shoot some pictures of the back of yours? I didn't realize they had nice comfort carving in back.
I heard recently that Mica is the one who designed the Skylark body shape. That, and the Excel, are among my favorites, so she's got a great eye for form.
The zebrawood one at the store is tempting, tempting, tempting...but I am afraid my fingers are too fat.
I agree with Jonathan - more guitar pictures, please!

Very nice guitar, Ivette. I'm always happy to see a top notch zebrawood instrument. Once Alembic gets into your blood, you're hooked.
Enjoy

Yes I actually saw the oceanburst skylark at Resurrection Guitars. I love it. The amber led's are awesome. I wish I could be the one they were holding it for. I do like the skylark shape a lot. It's very comfortable, and it's not heavy.

Very nice, Ivette. Great grain on the mahogany. I really like this shape - it reminds me of a cross between a Les Paul (double cutaway?) and a Rickenbacker 381, with the routing around the front edges. The double thick top laminate makes it stand out!

Ivette,
I just got back from vacation and low and behold, a beautiful Skylark! When you say it's unbelievable, I know just what you're talking about. I've had my Skylark for around nine months now, and it still never ceases to amaze me. You're also dead on about the little movements of the filters producing so many varied tones. It does my heart good to hear your joy over this superb instrument. Last week, I picked up a '86 Persuader, and I'm here to tell ya, their basses are just as great as their guitars! (Really Hollis? Alembic makes great basses? Do tell...) Have fun with your Skylark... Mine has made me a much cleaner guitarist....
Enjoy

Thanks. I actually tried using the mxr bass d. i.+ on the skylark. I like the way it works even though it's for a bass. And, the distortion on it sounds great . I used it at an open mic the other night, and during the soundcheck.. people seemed amazed just from me checking the distortion out with a single hit of an e chord. I was like.. oh wow.. this sounds so awesome. I was going from the mxr into a fender amp they had there. I play pop kind of stuff that has an edge on it and I like that the mxr has a volume for the clean and distorion so I could match them up the way I need them to be. And the skylark sounds amazing with both clean and distortion.
