(They aren't carpeted backplates, they're just SUPER FREAKING SHINY CHROME) The pictures do not do justice to this instrument. It is the most beautiful looking and playing bass that I've ever laid hands on. My thanks to everyone in Santa Rosa for turning out another masterpiece. Now that's what I call a bass, congrats!!
Ellery

Thanks for the compliments, everyone. I look forward to spending the rest of my life getting to know her.
Wait, Paul TBO is speechless?? Someone get a camera!!
-
Super freaking cool!!!
Congrats!
-
Isn't the Excel just the greatest Bass in the world? There's just something about it that does something for me. It was my first Alembic, and still my favorite.
Congrats Adam - she's a beauty!

A set neck fretless with that combination of neck and body woods and the Europa controls has got to sound very nice!
-
Adam:
Very sweet! Especially the wood pick up covers and the neck. If this were mine I'd name it Tasty. What effect of using mohagany instead of maple in the neck are you expecting?
Bill, tgo

Amazing bass Adam!! Congratulations. She is very beautiful - love all that vermillion.

Bill,
I would think the mahogany would attribute to a bassier, darker tone. Maple is generally known for its brightness, and that is something I intentionally tried to avoid in this bass. With the vermilion body and set neck w/heavy woods, it has a lot of warmth and it packs a nice punch.
Here's a couple grainy, blurry shots with the LEDs on:

Very nice Adam, congratulations! Now she's arrived home 'the long strange trip' has finally come to an end. I love the wood recipe!
Wilfred
-
Congratulations on your new addition, Adam! She is very beautiful, indeed.
Were you able to adjust the Epic to your liking? She does looks happy there...tell her I miss her, OK?!
Best of luck with your new axe...
Chris
-
Thanks, Wilfred & Chris. The Epic has settled in nicely here, she gets plenty of attention and has nice friends to hang around with. This newest addition is a nice complement to a growing collection... now I just need a 6-string fretted & fretless, an 8-string, a piccolo...
I'd better start saving up.

I'm late on this but what the heck! That bass is stunning! I might add that I am not a big fan of the Excel but your custom idea changed my thinking of the bass. What a fantastic instrument, I'm sure you have been enjoying it to the fullest. Take care
-
Now I am in trouble... this has to be one of the most beautiful looking bass instruments I have seen! ?INCREIBLEMENTE BELLA! Enjoy!!!
-
This is a very cool bass. Just updating with a recent photo. The colors have darkened nicely and it's in mint condition.
-
beautifull!
-
Indeed - beautiful! (I yearn for an Alembic fretless to fall into my lap, but...)
-
Awesome bass! The neck woods are amazing, good choice. Wow...
-
Just back from a Santa Rosa spa session with at clean bill of health...this is an amazing bass! :)
-
Nice that you gave your bass a trip to the spa. Mine wants one too, but it will be a while.
-
Yes, and it is a happy bass! :)
-
I'd forgotten about this one Rob. Wow, now that's a sweet Custom fretless. :D
-
Thanks, Greg, it’s a great bass. My heaviest bass too, 12 lbs. I think Excels are solid body.
-
Hey Rob,
Glad to see my 'old' bass is in a loving home and in good shape! Play her in good health.
Adam
-
Adam, that is truly a magnificent bass! I brought it to Alembic and had a couple of switches replaced and had it cleaned up nicely. A wonderful bass, but I ended up selling it to purchase a Series bass. I hope to buy another fretless Alembic sometime in the future. -Rob

Just sharing a recent pic from a jam a few weeks ago - glad this bass is back home.

I have always really loved this bass. It looks like it knows it's cool.
-
Me too, even though fretless is outside my skillset.
