Title: My first "Epic"
Post by: rami on January 20, 2010, 04:27:54 PM
Here she is:

Serial number: 96W9955

I traded my MUCH HATED Gibson Thunderbird for her. She has a few nicks and scratches, but infinitely superior in every way to the Gibson.  Best trade I ever made!

Hey Adam,

Thanks for the nice words.  I was always around, just not posting as much.

You know, I wasn't even looking for another Alembic.  One day a friend (who I knew had it for a long time) called me up and asked me if I had anything that I'd be willing to trade for it.  The T-Bird was an easy choice. It was something that I had really grown to HATE over the years: the difficult access to the upper frets, the weird shape and most of all, that HUM!  It was so bad it made the Bass unplayable.

The Epic, in contrast is a real player's Bass - I just can't compliment it enough. It's 100 times the Bass that the T-Bird is.  I suppose he was dazzled by it's looks and the Gibson logo, but as a Bass player, I'm MUCH more impressed by an ALEMBIC logo.

The important thing is that we each feel happy with our trade - although I know that I got the better Bass.

I only regret not getting Epics before when they were more affordable.

You know, I had always wanted a T-Bird but after your description I'm left without that want now. Besides, are'nt they a 36 scale? Must be hard to find strings and when you do your stuck with a couple or to a few brands.
I own an Orion so, I can relate to the feeling of these basses, very comfortable, very familiar feel and the sound....
Good luck with her and when you're ready to sell that maple topped Rogue of yours, let me know.

Hey Adam,

The T-bird has a 34 scale. It feels longer because of its weird shape.  When it rests on your leg, the neck is farther out.
I suggest trying one out to form your own opinion.  Alot of people love the T-bird - I'm just not one of them.  I especially don't like its terrible directional HUM & difficult upper fret access.
You'll be the first one I'll think of when I consider getting rid of the Rogue - but it probably won't be anytime soon.
Thanks again for the kind wishes - I wish you all the best too.

Cheers,

Rami
