Title: Tribute in a Strat

I just had a phone call with a person who wanted to see a picture of a Strat with Alembic guts installed. Since I emailed him, I figured someone else might want to see this so here it is!

For this guitar, we had to enlarge the original routing to fit the Tribute electronics. The customer wanted it to look normal at first glance. So we mounted the two jacks on a Strat-shaped jack plate and made a new extended pickguard that kept the same general shape as the original.

Well ...it looks good IMHO.
And indeed ...guitarplayers will look twice and start a LOT of wondering ...I can see the questionmarks coming out their ears!!

That strat looks fantastic. Makes me think about doing the same with my favorite Strat Ultra the future.
 
I would imagine it would be quite expensive though, maybe one of the other alembic guitar electronics packages would be more affordable.
 
I can't even imagine how it would sound. I have both a Strat and an Orion guitar and they both sound fantastic and each have their own place depending on the gig or my mood :-) . But an alembicised strat would be something.
 
I guess this needs to go in the Dreaming for now.... section.....sigh

Very cool! This couldn't have been cheap...wonder what it costs to do this? Probably more than the Strat listed for new (while it may be an American-made Fender, it doesn't appear to be a Custom Shop Model). This might even be more of a Jerry-ized Strat than his Graham Nash blondie was, LOL!

from what i can see (color, hardware), that's a standard strat. not even an american standard. so it's about a 500$ guitar. the electronics are more than double that original price.

GEEZ . . . just when you think you've seen it all.  It just looks 'right'.  I can only imagine the sound.  And it's great to see this on a normal looking instrument, we need to see MORE of these.  You expect this on a Tribute, etc., but it's really nice to see an every day Strat updated this way.
 
Must be like dropping a ROUSH motor in a new Mustang!
 
I wonder if they did the paint?
 
Yes, Mica, what would this transformation cost, and how long does it take to work one of these in?

FWIW, I've seen Alembic activators in brown, black and wood cases, but not creme/white. At first, I thought the owner of the axe above just wanted contrast with the pearloid pick-guard, but then I realized that, as far as I know, Alembic activators aren't available in white/creme.  
 
Am I correct?
 
I'd like one of the above, but make mine American-made with highly-figured BEM for the neck/FB, and a 5A flame-top with a dyed finish/burst. Keep the MOTO pick-guard and chrome hardware, but make the activators white, LOL!

I have just won this Jackson charvel guitar with Alembic pickups and the filter on ebay UK. ( no q switch tho)
When the guitar arrives, I plan to move them to my strat.
 
I am not sure how they are wired in this guitar or are supposed to be wired for a USA strat, but if you have a diagram could you please email.
Cheers, how much would a q-switch be to purchase also?

Well that thread has now been archived so let me hijack this one rather than make a new thread.
Remember I have a strat that I customised with alembic activators and filter etc. Well here is my next stage of customisation.

I had the body laser etched today with the picture from the front and rear covers of the Burnin' the wailers album. The front image is etched to a depth of about 0.5mm and the back to about 2mm. For some reason the laser burnt deeper on the back image.  
 
I will soon be taking the disassembled guitar parts to John Diggins of  Jaydee custom guitars to have the body lacquered with a slight tint to match the the colour of the aged maple neck finish and the guitar re-assembled. There is a piece of maple behind the pickup holes that will have its images cut out and fitted to the tops of the Alembic Pickups so the continuity of the picture image on the front is maintained.
 
I know John is very busy with a full order book at the moment so it could be a while.

We had some problems with the heat being generated at the edge of the back plate where the strings go through whch resulted in the wood catching fire. But I guess it adds to the effect.
 
Rather appropriate considering the album the picture is off is called Burnin' and the previous album was 'Catch a Fire Maybe Bob, Peter and Carlton were having a bit of a laugh with us.
