Miguel - That is a great looking bass - pristine condition.
If you wish to learn more about the instrument post a note in
with the serial number.
Play it loud!
-
That is in incredibly good condition for a 20 year old bass.

Yes thank you for those compliments but I'm willing to share it with my 10 year old Alembic's fan already,he is taking his first lesson but with an Alembic spoiler he can't go wrong don't you guys think?
-
is this the one that was on craiglist with a very strange description? i was thinking about getting it but didn't have time to see if i had the money, congrats

Yes indeed, previous owner told that it was a gift given to him by a Doctor that never used and him acquired it in 1993 and since then is has been inside the case all this time, it is in pristine condition.best regards

Hello Miguel,
I'm not sure, but your top looks like zebrawood to me. The back is most likely mahogany. It is a beautiful instrument, congratulations. Your son is very lucky to have a sharing father.

Always the best way to learn...and keep interested in an instrument IS to start out on a quality instrument. Of course startin\ out on an Alembic is...well... remember that Fender Musicmaster bass .

I'm a little intrigued by not been sure what type of wood it looks like zebrawood but I have my doubts yet but thankyou anyone in this forum give me some opinions. the back looks the same as my 1997 Essences but this one I am still scratching my head???
-
can someone tell me about the electronics on a Spoiler please specially the rotary control???
-
the rotary control is a pickup selector, it has a stand by, bridge, both, and neck settings. the other controls are a volume, low-pass filter, and a q switch

Thank you Taylor great info that is exactly what I experienced when I played it, it has a beautiful sound and so different comparing to my Essence. THANKS again taylor for taking your time to explain me.
-
no problem Miguel, not like a fresh high school graduate has anything better to do anyways :-p

Congrats Miguel!! Very nice Spoiler! As the others have mentioned it looks to be a Zebrawood top, Mahogany body and three piece Maple neck. Taylor's explained the controls, but there's also a description in the FAQ (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=280) section.
Enjoy!

I've owned a Spoiler for quite a while, and admire the range I can get from two knobs and two switches.
Of course you have a volume and a tone control. The rotary switch is a pickup selector. The four 'clicks' are
1. Mute/standby
2. Neck pickup only
3. Both pickups
4. Bridge pickup
This is correct IF no one has switched the pickup leads. If yours is backwards to this, remove the back cover, and you'll see the plug-in pickup leads on the circuit borad next to the the two blue boxes. Just unplug them and reverse where they're plugged in and you're done.
The switch is Alembic's 'one-way' Q-switch. With the switch up, your tone knob functions normally. With it down, you may have experienced a 'wah' kind of effect as you turn it from closed to wide open. In this position it's a high pass filter: All the way down, there's virtually no highs and the tone is like an organ pedal. As you slowly turn it open, it passes more and more highs into the output, more than the regular tone control as there's a bump in the output at the pass point. This offers lots of possibilities ! Plus this is one of the very few cases I can think of where you can have active pickups with a conventional tone control, rather than boost/cut.

Thanks Joey you have given a quite excellent explanation about the electronics, greatly appreciate it.
-
According to Mica (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=280), the tone control on a Spoiler is the regular Alembic low pass filter.

DUHHHH . . . . of course, it IS a low pass filter. Man but it's a full time job idiot-proofing myself !

Hee hee! That's ok Joey, I generally try to keep my hands off the keyboard until I've at least finished my first cup of coffee.
