This one was the prototype for shape #6, the version we've finally settled on. We didn't test it with an expensive piece of Coco Bolo. Instead, we made the shape out of a solid piece of Mahogany. We loved it so much we had to finish it and what a finish! Blue steel color shifts from blue to purple, and the contoured top really shows it off.
-
Wow, Mica -that's one sexy looking shape!! No wonder your Mom is so proud of this style of guitar. I wonder what an enlarged version would be like for a bass? Pretty comfortable, I'd wager.

I just purchased that Blue Steel Tribute Guitar. Today is Tuesday, June 29th, 2004. It should arrive on Friday, I cant wait........
-
Hi Craig,
Welcome to the club. Congatulatuions on your new purchase.
Don't forget to breathe!
Enjoy
-
I think that would be a real cool shape for a bass.
-
Hi Craig,
Welcome to the club & congrats on your score!
I agree about this shape for the bass. If I was buying another Alembic today, and this was on the rack, it would be comming home with me.

Congrats!

Thanks to everyone. I have previously owned 2 Series 1 Basses, but have been drooling over this guitar for about a year or so. I play in a reggae band here in Southern Cal. so Friday night it's going to the gig with me........
-
Excellent buy, congratulations. That is a beautiful guitar. Let us know how it goes at the gig.

I received the guitar yesterday. I named her Stella Blue, she is so sweet it gave me a cavity. What can I say, an awesome guitar......My friend said the paint looked like it was from the space shuttle, hmm, Stellar Blue??
-
Congratulations with that fabulous Tribute, please don't hesitate to add some more pictures! It's a great piece of history, and the solid mahogany body should give you a great foundation for some major tone tweaking. Although I'm fully converted, addicted and dedicated to the bass now, I just love this guitar!

I'll post some more pics when the sun comes out.(http://club.alembic.com/Images/411/11037.jpg)

crobbins Cragrats! I've played that guitar before and without a doubt, you have got yourself THE tone of all that is good in guitars! I have tried to get that sound out of my other guitars, but only yours dominates!
-
Congratulations Craig! I love that guitar - I think lots of us played or heard it during its residence at Alembic. The Blue color changing finish is great in all kinds of light. And the Tribute sound is in a class all its own. Great to see it become part of someone's music!!
Don't be a stranger. Keep us posted on how things develop for you with this beautiful ax. If I were the one taking it home it would become an obsession.

Wow, it's truly truly wonderful...
Have you gigged her yet, and how many questions did you have to answer afterwards? That's one of the coolest guitars ever IMHO, you must be so proud!

-
Soooooooo Sweeeeeeeeet!

Hey Craig,
I just got the Tibute that I posted in the showcase with yours. I really like that blue color, that is just plain cool. I really enjoy playing reggae too and I really love the rich/strong tones out of the Tribute for the leads and rythm.
I think the tone quality backs up the positive message of reggae very well. What band are you in? Maybe when I'm down from Sacramento on business I can get lucky and see a gig.

Sitting here in Limbo
Waiting for the tide turn.
Yeah, now, sitting here in Limbo,
So many things I've got to learn.
Meanwhile, they're putting up a resistance,
But I know that my faith will lead me on.
Sitting here in Limbo
Waiting for the dice to roll.
Yeah, now, sitting here in Limbo,
Still got some time to search my soul.
Meanwhile, they're putting up a resistance,
But I know that my faith will lead me on.
I don't know where life will take me,
But I know where I have been.
I don't know what life will show me,
But I know what I have seen.
Tried my hand at love and friendship,
That is past and gone.
And now it's time to move along.
Sitting here in Limbo
Like a bird ain't got a song.
Yeah, I'm sitting here in Limbo
And I know it won't be long
'Til I make my getaway, now.
Gonna lead me on now.
Meanwhile, they're putting up resistance,
But I know that my faith will lead me on.
Sitting in Limbo, Limbo, Limbo.
Sitting in Limbo, Limbo, Limbo.
Sitting in Limbo, Limbo, Limbo.
Meanwhile, they're putting up a resistance,
But I know that my faith will lead me on.

i had a ticket to the cornell show but i couldn't be there. it was the the day my master's thesis was due at m.i.t., and my thesis advisor (now deceased) requested some last-minute changes. i couldn't finish in time to leave with my friends, so i had to give up my ticket. i was not pleased.
it snowed briefly in cambridge that afternoon, as i walked my manuscript down amherst alley to my thesis advisor's office. the next morning i learned that it had snowed in ithaca that night
my friends recorded the show on a portable sony cassette deck, a larger precursor of the famous tcd-5 (i seem to recall td-135, but that easily could be wrong). i heard the tape when my friends got back around six the next morning. it was an extraordinary show, climaxing in the most incredible morning dew that any of us had heard before, or that i've heard since. and now anyone can hear it!
thanks craig, for remembering the day
and thank you jerry. rest in peace

The Blue Steel makes an appearance in a jam with the Titan of the Telecaster, Bill Kirchen.(http://club.alembic.com/Images/411/174875.jpg)
-
Kirchen's the man! What were the circumstances behind you and Kirchen jamming?
-
I've known Bill for a number of years. He was in the area for a gig, so I invited him to a party my wife and I threw for some friends. He graciously accepted! He sat in with our band, The Blonapartes, and then had me join his band for a tune as well. And, yes, Bill IS the man!
-
My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Bill on several occasions when he played here in Maryland. He is always very friendly and giving of his time to chat with fans.
I still have a CD he signed for Baby Kelly. My wife was pregnant at the time and we didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl.
Sorry to derail the Blue Steel thread. Very nice axe! I'm sure you are enjoying it!

Hi, all, Back after a long hiatus... Still diggin' my Blue Steel Tribute guitar, still have not played anything else that can touch it; it's true love! I found a company called Fennario Tie Dyes that does shirts with guitars of that shape... so I custom ordered one that celebrates my particular guitar. What do you think?
