I have been thinking about picking one up as well. How do you feel about your SC deluxe? Pro's and con's.

At first I thought it was good but not great because I'm not partial to blend pots. As I've adjusted it a bit and paid more attention to it, it is a fantastic bass. Very easy to play super responsive and dare I say FUN. Got it used at Ash in Joisey a few years back. Thankfully the bass mgr. at the time let me have it fairy cheap due to my Alembic addiction.

I have one of those basses too and i thought it was great from the moment I picked it up. The more I play it, the more I realise how good it really is both from the sound it is capable and the playability.
I'd love a 5 string in that sc shape but I fear the balance on it would make it uncomfortable to play and also the b string may be a bit loose.

Hi, I just took posession of this beauty, and I wanted to add a couple more pics. I polished up all the brass a bit cleaned the frets and fingerboard and put on a new set of strings.

I'm also a fellow SC Deluxe player...and the one shown in this thread is fantastic.
One big pro for the SC Deluxe is the mass to size ratio...lots of people find that a con and not a pro. But, if you have huge hands and get used to the short scale, you can do extensive intervals with fewer positionings...and all that mass translates into a bigger sound for a short scale instrument.
I can't think of many cons to an SC Deluxe...Only one: there's no big horn to grab onto for leverage when taking it off; so you have to be extra careful if the ceiling fan's on.
Cheers,

I know what you mean eligilam about the extensive intervals you can reach for on the short scale.
There is a nice chord G If I recall correctly on Stanley's album 1,2 to the bass. It's on the last track, Peace, and thats played root - 5th, root - 5th across 5 frets on all 4 strings.
Achieveable by starting on low G with a stretch on my sc, no way on my 34 Europa 5.
The bass does actually feel heavier than the Europa but I probably should weigh them. I doubt if there is much difference. Like you I agree the heavier mass does seem to work for the sound.
Hope you had a great Christmas.

Until I play this short scale, I really easier to play, really soft, really fast...you can tap (frapper?) the strings and do many diff?rents tones (sons?). Is it walnut, the top and back?

Hi, the top and back are rosewood with a mahogany core and maple accents, I played this bass with Pyramind flats for awile but have gone back to Nickel strings. The action is very low and the bass sounds great. I actually just got a set of wood knobs from THG and Im waiting on a set of Ebony tuners
Happy Holdays.
