I've been looking for a short scale recently. Yesterday I went to Bass Central specifically for a Victor Wooten clinic but also to check out a 32 scale custom I saw on their website. They insisted on calling it an Essence for some reason even though it has Epic electronics. The cool part, totally coincidence, is the bass had been signed at some point by Victor Wooten, just not on that day. My birthday is next week so this is my present from my wonderful wife.

Hey Sam, my birthday is also the 24th and I did the same thing, I bought an Alembic ( Spoiler ) as an early present. I tryed to hide it for a while so I could buy another Alembic for the actual day but I got busted hahaha !
...oh and happy birthday !
-
Sam, congratulations on the new bass! I know it is early, but happy birthday as well (how can it not be with a new Alembic, right? )
Greg

My 50th is next year, I wonder how early I can get my Alembic and still claim it as a birthday present. What are the rules hahah.

Hey Delano, what are the rules? When getting an Alembic on Saturday it helps if your wife comes home with a new Lexus on Friday.
Thanks for the kind words guys. I am loving this 32 scale. It is extremely comfortable to play.

You should be on your knees for next 10 years saying thank you to your lovely wife! In addition, you should be washing the clothes for the next 5 yrs, food shopping for the next 5 yrs too!
If you can cook, you owe her 3 yrs (if she can stand your cooking (ha! ha!)). Happy Birthday!!
(hmm..Now if I can get my wife to purchase a series 5 string for fathers day)
-
SAM!!
Congrats on a beautiful new bass. Debi is a wonderful wife to get you such a present!
So glad to hear that you are now Warwick-less.
So....how does it sound compared to the Epic??.if you can hear a difference now that you are REALLY old LOL!!
Happy birthday for the 24th my dear friend.

Hey George, it has Epic controls so its almost the same, which I like. However the sustain is days longer. I always thought the claims about neck through sustain were exaggerated. Boy was I wrong! I need to work on my muting technique
-
Congratulations Sam. That's a really sweet looking bass. Play it in good health. My next bass will also be a birthday present but it's a couple of years off and I'm planning to visit the mothership into the bargain.

Hey Graeme, thanks, I'm enjoying the heck out of it. Give me a shout when you're ready to come over. Maybe we can manage a California vacation then.
Sam

Thanks Wolf, I am indeed blessed with a great wife.

Congrats!
Looks like a unique headstock also, I love that mini me version of the Crown.
Clever way to reduce neckdive on a medium scale small body.

Beautiful bass Sam, congrats!!! Your wife has great taste in basses!

Thanks for all the nice words. Today is the actual day. The first thing I did was get up and play Cream's version of Lawdy Mama with this bass. Then I opened the next two presents,DVDs of the Gumball Rally and Dr. Who with David Tennant. Good Stuff!
-
Well today is my birthday also and I'm about to send a payment for my 2nd Alembic in about a month. I guess I got away promising I will sell something else.
Like the title of the thread says: Happy birthay to me !

I really didn't mean to start your Alembic addiction... I hope you don't hate me for that. I just wanted you to have a great bass you would enjoy playing. Enjoy. - Alan

looking good Sam.
I see someone has gone for DR neons on their fender. I've just replaced mine with black beauties - I found the neon coating didn't last long at all.

That particular Fender has quite a history behind it. It started life as a 62 PBass. It's been owned by my friend David Lee pictured above for decades. When we were roommates in the early 80s it had a natural finish and a PBass pickup. That bass has been refinished several times, most recently as it is in this photo with house paint. It's also gone through several electronics & neck modifications. It's been unfretted and refretted a time or two as well. That bad boy still sounds great!
