Title: The same Elan as the previous thread, with new knobs
Post by: Joe Schwartz (the_schwartz) on February 12, 2003, 09:32:06 PM
I bought this beautiful Cocobolo Elan 5 from Tim Sarter about a month ago. A friend who makes custom guitar knobs made the knobs from cocobolo I selected. Click the link below to visit his website:

Actually, this is the same bass from the first thread in the Elan folder:

It's the Elan on the right, as opposed to the Europa on the left.

Hey Joe,

You can also have knobs made by Alembic - as I did on mine.

They're made from Macassar Ebony out of the same piece as the top.

They're tastefully done with a conical shape, by the same hands that made the Bass.  A great finishing touch!

Hey Rami,
Are there pix of the whole bass posted anywhere?
I love Macassar Ebony.  From the pic referenced above it looks like you also have M.E. pickup covers.

Hey Joe,

Funny you should ask!  I can never resist a chance for a little shameless self promotion!

There are ALOT of Alembic firsts on that Bass.

Enjoy!

You can also see some Home pictures of them that I posted in Rogue Basses section of Showcase section.  The thread is entitled The Boyz.

Hey Rami,

That's quite a set of beauties you have there.  I noticed the weight is not listed in the specs ;-)  I bet the low B sounds nice on those 36 necks.

34 is all my little fingers can handle.  My next Alembic may well be Stanley-Sized?.

Let's just say...my right leg goes numb when I sit and play either of them.  The Dark Prince is a little heavier.  They both sound very different from each other, but both have incredible sustain and harmonics.

But this is YOUR thread Joe.  I wanted to tell you how incredibly beautiful I find your Elan.  Those Coco Bolo knobs are spectacular.

Best wishes,

Rami

My right leg goes numb when I sit and play my Elan!  Cocobolo is not exactly light, but it sounds great (especially in the low end).

Thanks for your kind compliments, Rami.  You can show off your gear in my threads anytime ;-)

Here's a new pic.  Roger from THG Knobs buffed out the surface scratch rings from the original knobs.
