Post by: bassman118 on June 25, 2004, 03:50:48 PM
New to the board, and thought I would post my ax. Getting old here, so as soon as I can figure a good fair price, she will be on the block. Sweet player, but fingers arent what they used to be here! Amaranth, Bubinga, zebra, purple heart, Maple etc, power supply, case 2 5 pin cords. 77-755

NEAT grain patterns! I love the way it swirls around to follow the shape of the body.

What's the scale length?

Scale is 32inch. It is an unusual hunk of wood!
Will attempt to upload a better photo

That's one great looking bass. The grain is very interesting indeed. If you're going to post more pictures: I'd love to see how that unusual wood combination you describe looks on her!

I have pretty much decided to sell this bass. I would consider trade ins, but they are pretty specific. Anyone having a 1972ish Gibson Les Paul (recorder) bass, or an old 32 inch EB3 in top condition, drop me a note. I would consider these plus cash for my Series I. I would also consider ampeg eub's. If nothing else, I would expect to put this unit on ebay in the fall. Full photo sets are available on request to: bassman118(at)cox.(net)

That e-mail address(work)is good I'll send it to you again.I've got an amp that would go with it also in cherry condition OR a single 15 gauss loaded Bag End cabinet in oiled birch with it's own road case again not abused at all.I will send photos within the next week or so.

Since I am getting away from playing, the bass would be used to decorate the studio wall. Any amps or speaker trade ins would be of no use to me. Thanks for the offer anyway. As I said earlier, I will probably just post the series 1 on ebay this fall, and let the market decide its value.
Any offers will always be considered, and I appreciate any input.

A fair deal it was. It was me who bought Dale's 77 Series one and I am more than pleased with it. I really love that old sound. Ellio Martina (http://www.elliomartina.com/ (http://www.elliomartina.com/)) did some neck corrections. The neck had a backward bow which he corrected and some other minor adjustments. It plays so smooth. So finally I got myself a bass with a name, simply Dale's 77. Thanks to Ellio and Edwin van Huik I got an old bass that plays like a new one.

Here's a picture with my three main basses.
A white Moon JJ4, Dale's 77 and my 98 SI with SII electronics. Not the sharpest picture but ok...

That's it for now.

Manfred, that's a beautiful collection you have there! I really love the Moon jazz! I'm constantly fine-tuning my own bunch. The Orion and EVH are in my blood, they will become family heirloom. But after the Series I my Elan might become the second ex-Alembic before or around the end of the year. I'm seriously looking for a 5-string myself, and I wont dismiss a non-Alembic beforehand.

And Paul TBO, I'm very curious about you Ellio Martina 'connection' (via EVH's BassConnection I assume). You wouldn't mind if I started yelling for pictures in this early stage, would you?

Ever played one of his basses Wilfred? BTW, I've seen several Martina basses with Alembic electronics.

That Moon bass is fantastic, it's so funky. I play my Alembic with a clean sound through the Glockenklang Heart Rock with a SF-2 in the effectloop, but the Moon goes through a EBS octave thing and a Lovetone Meatball. The Moon came with an extra hardware set in chrome, but the gold stuff looks better. For the dutch people here, my girlfriend calls it a Frans Bauer bass. So I'm not talking to here anymore LOL. The original owner was Incognito's Randy Hope Taylor.

And Paul.... pictures pictures pictures.

Manfred (The I'm not doing anything tonight because I'm tired and hungry one).

Manfred, the 'Frans Bauer' bass, I love it! Your girlfriend has a great sense of humour, is she Dutch by any chance? If it were a car it should've been called a 'pooierbak' (if you have ever seen the MTV-show 'Pimp my Ride' you know why). Personally I would go for the chrome hardware, but it still is a very cool bass!

Looks more like a Harry Mens bass, or a Vanessa bass, to me - too much money to spend and no taste. I don't think Frans goes for the flashy kitsch, just plain kitsch will do for him.

Yes she is Dutch and does have humour, but the first time she said that, man, I was proud of having a rare Moon Larry Graham bass in almost mint condition, designed by him, handcrafted.... etc.. and she calls it a F. Bauer bass. Now it makes me smile every time i pick it up.
I tried the chrome hardware, but this looks more, you know... It's wrong in a good (funky) kind of way.

Adriaan, I hope you are talking about Mr. Mens and Vanessa and not about me. If that's the case, you are sooooo right. I see the first one three times a week driving his Bentley or another big car, you can imagine it's hard to keep your breakfast inside.

Manfred,

I think we have about the same colour wallpaper. And no fake marble furniture in sight!
