This has been my main bass for 20 years, playing everything from Grateful Dead, to Who, to Jazzy stuff. This bass has spoiled me for any others (except perhaps my other Alembic, an Essence 6) [http://club.alembic.com/Images/411/53455.html?1215400659]. The tone, the speaking sonority of this bass, I've never heard anywhere else in real life (I don't run across too many other Alembics for some reason.) I have some bootlegs of JPJ and John McVie from the late seventies and I hear this bass's brethren there. I hope that doesn't sound too much like bragging. I am just glad an instrument like this exists, and that the universe brought us together. Even better, the clarity has made me a better player (although I still have a long way to go!). Can't hide any sloppiness in indistinct tone, that's for sure.

The classic Alembic..what could any bass player ask for..eternal looks, classic shape and a tone that I suspect is an absolute sonic dream.
Tom..see my post about upholsterer in your thread about replacing the insides of your case...no matter what it cost it is definitely worth it to protect this beautiful instrument.

I have to agree about the tone. The clarity is like no others I've heard and played. I too, use my 77 Series I (5 string) as my main gigging bass for much the same reasons as you.
Right on tomhug, keep on thumpin!
