Title: 75-246-Chris' Series I
Post by: 82daion on August 30, 2007, 12:47:33 AM
I just got this bass today, and I'm blown away, to say the least.   It was owned by fusion trumpeter Donald Byrd until 1980, when it passed into the hands of its previous owner.   It's in pretty good shape for a '75.  Pics:

Thanks, guys!

The electronics might need upgraded eventually, but other than that, I can't complain. The weight is right around 11 pounds, so it's quite tolerable.

I really love the figure of the Peroba Rosa-it doesn't show well in pictures, but it's got a very shimmery quality to it. Makes me wish they'd used some on the top. ;)

Hey, Chris!

Man, I apoligize! I missed this completely! I didn't even realize you'd found a Series! It's really cool. Looks like she's in excellent shape. I imagine she sounds as good as she looks!Yea, we'll have to get together after my Signature gets done, or mebbe we can get with some of the other Midwest guys and have a get-together like the NW and Dallas area Owners. That would be cool! Stay in touch, we'll get sumpin' goin!

Congrats on the Series. BTW, where did you get it?
Have fun and BCooool, Mike    (the 'Ho)......

Hey, Mike, it's no problem-thanks for the kind words. I got the bass from a member here on the Club who couldn't play it anymore due to wrist trouble.

A large-level midwest GTG would be cool-there are enough people in the area that we could definitely get something cool going. Even just meeting up in the area would be cool, too. We'll just have to see how things work out.

Hope all goes well with your custom-I'll be watching it with interest.

Chris

I saw from another site linked from the forum recently that one of John Entwistle's basses had a similar slice of Peroba Rosa on the back of it, which is pretty cool-it's the only other bass I've seen with this wood, so I imagine that the serial numbers are fairly close.

Thanks for the compliments, gents.

It would have to be a heck of a Q5 at this point, since I realized how stupid it would be to get rid of this bass, but I'll take a look at it if you send a pic or two to the email address in my profile.

As a more general thing, folks-this isn't a sale thread, so please email me or keep discussion in the sale forum. The bass isn't really available for purchase/trade anyway.

How would the sound of this beauty be compared to my 1997 Orion 5?

-And is trade across the atlantic any good?

I'd rather not ship across the Atlantic, since the best quote I've gotten with the Anvil case (the only one I've got for it) has been around $700.

And, folks-THIS BASS IS NOT FOR SALE OR TRADE.

If it becomes available again, you guys will be the first to know.

Speaking of holding on to this bass, I've owned it for a year as of this past weekend. It's been a lot of fun playing such a great instrument-hopefully it serves me for many more.
