This is a very special bass commissioned by Ikebe for their 35th Anniversary.
When they visited here to select woods and discuss the 5 instruments we built for this event, Kenji brought pictures he printed from the website of Bonnie [Showcase thread (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=8267)] [Featured Custom]. The story was touching for him, and he especially loved Paul's Manta omega carving.
It's not a replica, and there are several variations from Paul's bass (like this one is Koa instead of Walnut). We were all thinking of him while this was under construction. I just wanted to share this with the club.

Beautiful bass; and a fitting tribute.

Love it, very very sweet. Thanks Dave

Flamed Koa usually has such an allure about it. I was in Hawaii once, and ended up purchasing a gentlemen's jewelry box because of the flame Koa wood. Another wonderful masterpiece by Alembic, and a nice remembrance of an outstanding club member.

Wow, I used to go to Ikebe in Tokyo all the time during junior high & high school. Love their website too - you can find the range from Fender Japan replicas to high end basses, both Japanese-built and from overseas.
Very cool! I only met Paul once when he came to the first NoCal gathering - this is a wonderful way to remember him!
