I was able to pick this up on ebay recently. It is still really purple for a 34 year old guitar.

the back is browner than the front, but still pretty purple.

the neck is birdseye maple and fairly thin

peghead has walnut veneers front and back.

The 12-string only has one laminate under the fingerboard.

While my 6-string (77-648) has two. It needs a setup and new strings, but I am going to use it this week-end anyway. It sounds amazing. I'll get to clean it and put new strings on it next week. Todd. [corrected serial number] (Message edited by adriaan on June 05, 2011)

Here is a full length shot. You can see 77-648 behind it. Check out the difference in the upper horns.

Wasn't there a bass with the same upper horn?

Jealous? Me? Oh, hell yes!!!! I love it, I want it.

Yes Mica, 76-534 has the same notch. You had mentioned that you'd seen them before, now there's proof!!!
This is the first '77 I've seen that still used a channel bridge!
Congrats T!!!! That's a beautiful 12'er for sure!!!!

It's dated January 27, 1977. I didn't even notice the bridge. I am guessing it was mostly constructed in 76. I'll have to go look at some others

I found this bass that has the channel bridge as well. 77-617. The bridge must have changed sometime between 617 and 648 (dated March 9, 1977).

Congrats Todd !
It's a nice deal !
77' 613 is the first of 77's.
77' 630 is the last channel bridge.
77' 665 is the last single truss rod in my archives.
I think the Harris amp was changed to hole mounted chips arround 77'.
Graphite neck was produced at 77'.
Plain handcut logo to cast logo was also 77', right ?
Many important changes were done in 1977.
Very interesting !

Please note that the other guitar pictured above is 77-648, not 77-743. I don't know how I got the number so wrong.
