WOW!!!!
What's the history on the controls/electronics?
Logo on the body point is a nice touch.

Brother Keavin,
now THAT is something to have a closer look at!!! Wew!!!!
Paul the bad one (now fully awake)
-
Okay, I just did the math. You got that bass when you were 16?!!! I'm impressed. And jealous. When I was 16 I was learning how to play Brickhouse on a Crestline P-Bass copy. I shoulda held out for something like what you have and started out on School Days or Lopsy Lu
Good taste on buying and keeping that bass!
Peace,
James
-
Wow! It looks great. I love the original ones that have been played and you know they haven't been stored in a damp basement for 11 years of their life. Congratulations. I like the placement of the logo on the point, too.

Beautiful bass, Keavin. Good for you for hanging onto it for so long. You don't want to part with it now, it's an heirloom.

I always love seeing your bass Keavin.
-
thanks, man!, i love the way the sun burns that brass plate!,i also wonder why they dont use that style of brass any more its' a very unique charactaristic.
-
Is there a guitar show that one can enter their axe for display,or just for show-off?,or for historical knowledge, i'd like to put (old #12) in a show or somthing of the sort, anybody got any dimes they wanna drop?
-
Detroit just recently opened up a Hard Rock Cafe. At one point in time I considered letting them display 87-4431, since it used to belong to Stanley. They wanted it for a lot longer than I was willing to part with it, so no deal. Actually they would've preferred to buy it, but that wasn't even up for discussion. If there's one near you, they may consider it. My understanding is that these are local management calls.
Peace,
James
-
Cool man,im gonna look into some sites and check out some stuff on the net,and just check alot of different stuff out.
-
Keavin, Thanks for sharing such an important piece of Bass History. Those early Alembic basses put a smile on my face everytime.
-
Incredible looking bass. What are the controls, it would be interesting to know just how advanced Alembic were in '72.
-
seriesI med scale w/seriesII controls, one vol for each pup,one master vol, two filters, two CVQ's, the two little holes are the preamp trim pots & the toggle is stand by. alembic is still the same today as they were in 72,the series electronics are just quieter, this has been my main axe since 1980,i traded an Ibanez artist a fender jazz & $2,000 cash to guitar center in san francisco,,,its strange because this bass sat on the wall forever in that store (Guitar Center)nobody would buy it so one day i gave up two basses, and did the rest in payments .

the Greatful Alien?
-
Hi Keavin; haven't see you in a while! That first picture is the nicest picture of that bass you've posted.
-
I agree, that one (post #550, 2nd one up) is really nice. Amazing what nice shape it's in, and it's the first time I've really appreciated the placement of the logo and name.
Very interesting, and a little puzzling, how the neck woods blend into the body - looks like there are just three laminates going all the way through, clearly not as wide as the neck. Is this some sort of halfway bookmatch to center or something?
-
Keavin!
Agreed, that first picture is hot, your best yet.
Bob, Vigier used to do the same thing--build a neck-through-body with a dovetail near the bridge. I never asked why, but it's interesting to see similar ideas crop up over great distances, isn't it?
-
thanks guys! ive been,...well lets just put it this way,,,,my little wooden box????,, I forgot to empty it, and forgot to leave it @ home ,and therefore was busted with it,s contents.

Well then, welcome back!
-
I was once caught in a dorm with a little wooden box. And some little papers. And some small pipes.
Ah, college, how I barely remember.
-
Indeed, welcome back Keavin. You've been missed, and #12 has been the hot topic a couple of times.
Darn those pesky boxes that just refill themselves when you aren't watching...
Mike

Keavin's back and posting.......all is right with the world.
That's a beautiful full bass pic. I cringe seeing it lying on concrete though!
-
Maybe you should have called Bill about your box problem.
Brad
-
Welcome back Keavin!
Greetings from the land where the police can't be bothered with box problems - not that I have any such problems myself, but I still appreciate the liberties ...

-
nextel? is your bass a cell phone too?
-
It might as well be, ive been picking up all kinds of signals from police scanners to extraterrestrial signals!
-
Adriaan:
I have long envied your nation's policies vis a vis cannabis. Unfortunately, from what I've been reading, that is about to change come January 1st.
Keavin:
Any member of this club can consult with me on box questions anytime, no charge.
Bill, tgo
-
Bill,
What have you been reading?
-
Keavin,
Maybe you should lay off the box, if you're getting signals from aliens.
Brad
-
Ha!

Bill
You're a very good and generous advocate. Ja approve!

-
Although this Bass is serial#12 it's actually the 3rd Bass guitar ever built by alembic.....there were only two basses built before this one,all the other instruments were guitars.
-
What a wonderful piece of history. And they can stay away from my box and don't touch my junk while they're at it. Sheesh.
-
Nice pic Keavin!
-
I can't believe you were already funkin up on #12 the year I was born! Great pic!

#12 is quite a treasure. A unique bass among a plethora of hand-made customs.
