I found her used in 1978.

That is just beautiful! I really love those old finishes.
-
Pretty cool. Looks like a nice piece of Koa to me. I love the flames in the wood!!!

She's sweet...
-
She looks well cared for. I really like the patina that the brass gets with age.
Sam

Oooh... nice ass.

Ken,
Yes, your bass is a nice representation of a Koa made Alembic.
Thanks for the picture,
Darrell

Tie me to an anthill and smear my ears with jam...
That's a keeper!!!

Played at a blues jam on Sunday and an old friend, Bob Karambalas, got this wonderful picture of my baby. 33 years together and counting.

Great shot- what a beautiful bass!
-
COOL !
-
I like it. Half a mega. Color is outstanding.
-
Love the Koa!
In the photo the lighting makes it look like a Koa burst. What's the wood face of the Headstock?
-
Thanks guys, Bob was a sound guy locally back in the day and is now shooting pics. He has a great eye and great composition. If we could get that old guy out of the frame my bass would be a lot prettier for certain. nnek, the headstock face I believe is Bocate. Please feel free to check out Bob's facebook photos, really nice stuff...

Just came across this pic from 2003, at Lupo's in Providence, opening for Max Creek.

The band is Mushroom Soup, we will be reuniting and opening for the new NRBQ at The Met on Fri. 7.15.11 in Pawtucket..

Well, Bob K. caught another great shot of my baby at our TomTom Tribute yesterday at The Met.

40 plus musicians gave up their Sunday to pay tribute to Tom Ardolino, the drummer for NRBQ, who passed away earlier this year at age 56. It was truly magical, 9 groups of players, 4 songs each, all NRBQ songs, all sounded amazing and it all ran on time from 4:00-9:00. We just wanted to thank Tom for his joy and influence on us all..
R.I.P Tom..

Stellar shot !!
-
Seriously awesome picture!
Cool tribute to a great drummer!
-

What an stunning bass!!!!
-
Thanks guys, I just love the Koa... elegant and understated. Almost all original, the Hat Knobs are newer ones from Mica, I still have ones she came with, they have age cracks and I was afraid I might lose them. No upgrade, but, she is dead quiet...

Hi Ken,
Just wondering,
Does this bass have an inner core, [sandwiched between the Koa] and if so what type of wood?
-
Glen, she is semi-hollow, the top and back are Koa and the sides are Mahogany. I see you have a '76, are they close in birthdays?
-
The '76 was stolen from me around 1993 and I am not quite sure of the number anymore but I think it was 676.
I really like the look of the similar colored core to the top , not so common on series basses.
-
That is a really beautiful bass!
Any chance of a close up of one of the oval inlays?
-
Keith, Thank you, I will try, a couple of them are really sweet, but, you have to get the light just right.
-
Ok, the first one is the 12th fret...
The second is the 3rd fret...

Wow, they came out much better than I expected... It have been a dry winter and this reminds me that it is time for a little Lemon Oil...

A beautiful instrument under any angle and lighting. Koa, walnut and mahogany have a magical inner earth mojo that's just so organic. Perfect in combination with the vibe of the old school Alembic body shapes. My next Alembic will definitely be more retro (though I'm completely under the spell of my current MK Sig Dlx).
-
Beautiful bass, Kenn. The color in the oval inlays has a nice vintage look to them as well.
Rob

Thanks Kenn!
Those inlays look beautiful. Such a lovely bass.

Thanks guys, she is a sweetie and has been a part of our lives( I include my wife here for allowing us to go into debt for a few years to pay for her ) for a long time. And Sam, roger, on the earthy quality of the woods. They have settled into each other very nicely. At one time I thought of giving her a rest, as she deserves and tried to go with my 5 string, but, I keep coming back home to her. Her pull is just way to strong for me.
Thanks again...
