Here's the part about the Series I 5-string (http://www.bassplayers.co.za/alembic-series1.html target=_blank). He says some stuff that strikes me as questionable, like only being able to use it mono if using batteries and not the power supply. He probably only had a regular guitar cable when he tried it...

You can find two earlier threads where Jan-Olof Strandberg is mentioned here with a couple of soundclips (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=3087) and here where the Scottish contingent met up with Trip and Jan-Olof. I might add that I say him demo EBS amps and fx a couple of years ago, playing an MTD. He knows how to play ...
 
Somebody was asking only two days or so ago about a 2nd hand Series II 6 string, with that same body style.

The original series instruments were definitely Stereo, but I think that some of the later instruments were mono 1/4 jacks (and later yet, seem to have a stereo/mono switch).
 
I read that review, and found something discordant with it, although I haven't really taken the time to put my finger on it.

I think 36V refers to the +-18V.  36V differential.

So I guess my transitor radio runs on a standard 18v battery ... every on the planet Earth just calls it a 9 volt as part of a giant conspiracy to confuse me, right?  lol

That there is a pin with +20V and another pin with -20V (and a ground pin).  There is a 40 Volt differential between them.  Think push-pull.
 
I suppose I could get a multimeter and actually *measure* it, but can't be bothered.  
 
9 volt batteries have 9 volts (give or take) differential.

What the heck do you mean you can't be bothered????  I want to know if it's exactly 36 volts.  How dare you not immediately drop whatever you are doing and go get your multimeter (is that anything like a multivitamin?) and measure, measure, measure.  I mean, isn't it your very purpose in life to be waiting with baited breath beside the computer screen, on 24/7 call to answer questions for the rest of us?  And if it's a push-pull system, does that make it AC?  Or maybe it's a Doolittle pushme-pullyou system?  Ah, my friend the doctor!  I'm think I'm still recuperating from last weekend's annual NORML conference.  Can you tell?  hehehehe

Okay, that last bit doesn't happen at most of the conventions I go to, but I can see why you'd be recovering.
 
I hope you accept my profound apologies that I didn't get right on your question.  I'll try to prepare better in the future to meet your every whim.

And in this case, can't be bothered means:
 
1) don't own a multimeter (meaning to buy one, but I'm a relentless researcher (to prevent buyer's remorse), and I can't be, well, bothered, to do the research)
 
2) My DS-5R is 30 minutes away.

Bradley, is the ground pin (signal pin) isolated to the pickups, or common to the power lines and pickups?  Just curious.

I don't really know-- I'm just going off the scraps that I've managed to pick up here.
 
My guess is that the power pins are isolated from the pickups (which share a ground).
