Just found the club after snagging a CA Special today on ebay. Thought I might join the fun, this one is worth looking at...(http://club.alembic.com/Images/411/37065.jpg)

goodness me.....
I've never felt such an urge to take up the guitar. More pictures are required.
Beautiful catch- have fun.

David:
Welcome to the club. Enjoy your new Cali Special. I was the other bidder. Congrats.
Bill, the guitar one
-
Wow, what is that, Walnut? Nice, congratulations. Sorry, Bill.

Welcome David,
Great guitar. Interesting in that its hum cancellor is hidden and uses large aperture pickups.

Real Beauty!

WOW!!!
What a stunning BTCer'ed guitar!!!
-
Gorgeous. Wood doesn't get much better than that.
Burl Brasilian Rosewood? I remember seeing a picture of a triple omega at the mothership with similar wood & that's what that was.
That would be my guess. It looks a little too amber to be walnut but I could be wrong.
That's the same shape as my guitar, but even without the series electronics difference I like this one much better.
It's more than worth looking at; as a matter of fact I think everyone is waiting for more pictures; I know I am.

Welcome brother,
What a vision!!,kinda knocks my Variax 300 into a cocked hat.As is often said here, enjoy in good health, and as is very often said here,MORE PICTURES PLEASE!!.
Best Wishes,
Simon.
-
That's got to be some Burl Rosewood - before we put it on 25th Anniversary restriction. I think that's the guitar where we first tried the inlaid logo with shell.
-
Mica:
What's the story with the pickups which appear to be humcanceller size instead of the stock single coils with a Series instrument (and the apparent lack of a humcanceller)?
Bill, tgo
-
My guess would be that those are bass series pickups and the humcanceler is hidden in the body.
Valentino
-
Val's right, these are the regular AXY size pickup shells, same as a Series II 4-string bass would get. Same thought as a FatBoy pickup - wider aperture. I'm pretty sure the humcanceller is cast under the bridge pickup in the same shell.
-
Wonderful guitar!
-
Wow, you guys really keep up with this. I will get to these questions here after putting another picture up.

and I thought the top was amazing- that is a killer sandwich you've got going there.
Best thing is that I'm sure it sounds better than it looks.
-
Wow! What a stunner!
Welcome to the Gang, and enjoy!

Okay sweet talkers, here's another(http://club.alembic.com/Images/411/37327.jpg)

Mica,
What a memory! Yes that matches what Peter (orig owner) told me; he took two trips out there from Chicago to handpick the woods, I guess in 96-97 the internet wood bank wasn't available. Good thing, since I have been having trouble concentrating while voraciously consuming the pix you have posted there.
I thought at the time Peter said it was burled walnut, but the paperwork agrees with you: burl rosewood. He told that this piece was reserved for a 25th Anniversary bass, and that there wouldn't be many like this one. He was right.

that is stunning.
-
its an absolute beaut. killer body lams, great idea very unique. can we get some better headstock photos please? pretty please?
-
It's a very beautifull guitar!
Quite an original shape for the body too???
Paul TBO
-
Paul, I think the shape is a normal series 2, but with all trace of omega cut or pointiness removed from the bottom. It actually looks like the wood came from the same cut as the Superb Walnut '89 S2 that just showed up on this list. There was speculation before that this one might be rosewood but it is walnut. Notice also the similarity in body shape.
-
This is Burl Rosewood - this piece was too small to make a 25th Anniversary Sterling model. We made a few basses from Burl Rosewood before we decided to reserve the rest for the limited edition. It's very special - I don't recall us making another guitar from it.
The body shape is that of the 20th Anniversary guitar, but with a smooth cut intead of the regular omega. My mom's Anniversary guitar is in the Showcase (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=9211) for comparison.
-
I have gotten some emails recently to find out if I still have this guitar. Have not been able to pull the trigger and list on ebay yet, so if you are thinking about it...(http://club.alembic.com/Images/411/67005.jpg)
-
Also, sorry about not responding to the request on better headstock photo, hope this helps...
