That is a beautiful work of art Pierre! A very nice addition to your collection! Enjoy!
-
That picture is angled very much like the custom of the month pictures...
I wonder.....
That is such an impressive looking bass Pierre, the larger maple laminate really is a great effect.
Jazzyvee
-
maybe, maybe not ?
lamination maple makes the beauty of this bass more incisively. This affects the thickness of the body and gives more depth, more flavor (!)

I would love a full size photo if you have one you could email me please.

Is it me, or is the tailpiece off-center?
-
It looks centered to me, but that could be the camera angle.
-
Oh, Mike, not that again! :-)
Really beautiful inlays on this! I love abalone.
-
I think the off-center tailpiece is a long running joke. The bass is absolutely stunning!!!
-
I think it looks amazing - congratulations!!! Can't wait to hear soundclips - Pierre-Yves's playing combined with this Alembic are guaranteed to produce stunning results!
-
to jazzy: email sent

Merci Pierre, c'est maintenant mon image d'ordinateur.

-
So elegant!
Congratulations... I can just imagine how it sounds and plays... Wow!
-
the tailpiece could not have not to be centered of course
thanks for your comments...
I can imagine the sound, I hope it will not be too crystalline, otherwise I will compensate with my fingers and settings. The reseller is, with Mica, the only two people who have tried it and both agree that the sound is very (too?) pure.
This is the first time Alembic uses the African Blackwood, which is a denser wood than coco bolo.
Perhaps should I use this bass as a real bass or as tenor bass, it will depend on his sound.
It is now that I realize as she begins to take me the belly, it's great.
The thickness of the body give a relief that does not exist on other short scales.
-
Nice bass...I've been watching your FTC thread since day 1. When you get a chance, be sure and post a picture of its body from the side so we can appreciate the extra thickness you're referring to.
-
I'm not really a fan of the body shape, but I still can't stop looking at the pictures as the blackwood just looks incredible.

Bill, tgo
-
after deep reflexion I say NO
-
Your bass is a one of a kind beauty,
congrats,
I can only imagine how good it sounds.
-
WOW that combination is really stunning!
-
I'm speechless. At least I can still type...
-
Nope my wife is a old gibson SG copy!LOL!!!
-
LOL Keavin! My wife IS a Gibson, but I dare not call her old!!!
-
Woh bah bon dieu!!!!! C'te classe!!! C'est extr?mement magnifique!
Maaaarvellous!!
-
Wow is all I can say.
-
That is the richest chocolate one can have. An awesome specimen, it sits well against the best coco bolo, buckeye burl or superb walnut. I am sure the sounds are as awesome as the look. Please share some sound clips!!!! Congrats and enjoy the physical and aural pleasure this beauty gives you.
-
Job well done...
Alembic had been around for so long, and they done so many, I am sure this bass could be made blind-folded.
Peace and Love,

I love how Mahogany draws that redish line around the clear Maple when we see that bass frontside. It almost pops out when we see the Bass in angle, what very beautifull color scheme it has.
-
I always say simplicity is elegant, and pieces like this are the perfect proof. Well done. This one just 'works' in so many ways. The color scheme really sets off the chrome parts.
I know you shall enjoy this one a lot !

That is one beautiful lady. Never seen that wood before. Enjoy.
-
It was one of the reasons of my choice.
Actually I'm in Croatia for my annual herps travel, I have a lot of difficulties to find snakes because it's too hot now. Croatia is one of the must beautiful country in Europe.
I have ask Alembic to send me the bass because I will be back on this sunday
-
Oh my Lord, that's probably the most perfect bass I've ever seen! Congrats Pierre Yves!
-
here are some shots from my home today; the blackwood is really difficult to shot, the color is really dark brown violet (kind of). Enjoy: the actually complete family:

stunningly beautiful Pierre-Yves. That picture from the side showing the core wood with the two extra thick maple laminates is my favorite.
I know it's been a difficult process to sit through, but that bass is insanely beautiful- and from all accounts thus far, it sounds better than it looks. I'm sure the joy it will bring over the coming months and years will far outweigh some of the hand-made quirks associated with the symmetry of the bass. Enjoy
-
I'm looking forward to hearing the audio and watching your video's with them when you find the time.
Jazzyvee
-
The strap buttons don't look centered.
-
Yeah, and some parts of the darker wood, has lighter area... What's with that Alembic!
Y'all got to tell those trees to get it right...cause 'P' will check it!
Peace and Love,

Nice Family shots Pierreyves. I really like the maple balance K.

Hi, here are the asked ABW sound record I did some minutes ago. The bass is ADGC tuning, the sound is recorded with the direct output post eq. I use both pickups with some filters variations on the bridge pickup.
Enjoy!

Next time I will do something with the digitech stereo jamman, because it's not easy to play alone like that
-
I know you originally wanted gold hardware, but I think the chrome REALLY looks nice with the woods. This is probably my favorite Alembic.
-
just for the fun, piano solo in Goodbye Pork Pie Hat... (made some monthes ago).

Pierre, I can't get the link to open...
-
Hi, I can open all, on mac & PC. You must have an mp3 reader plugin as Quicktime, VLC & others...
-
I have several MP3 readers, but the link does not open. I can open your website & got to your Alembic pictures, but I don't see a link for the MP3's.
-
With firefox, IE, on Mac & PC I can open all I dont understand... anyway I sent you by mail the MP3's
-
Hey Pierre, I still can't get the link to work, but I got your email with the files attached. Thanks! WOW!!! Everything I have read about the sound of this bass is true!!! It sounds incredible!!! You should be very pleased with this bass, you are the envy of many now!!! You are an awesome player too! Do you have any videos on You Tube? Thanks again for sending me the files!
-
Thanks I don't have any video on youtube, not really interesting for me, maybe when my band will be complete and stable with a keyboard player who stay more than 2 monthes The big difficulty is to find a keyboard player in Geneva...

(Last night the Mrs. looked over my shoulder & asked Don't ever get tired of looking at all those guys showing off their stuff? Need I tell you my answer? Keep on showing off!)
Peter

That is one really cool collection of Alembic basses.
Enjoy in good health.

-
There can never be too many photo's of this bass Pierre, I just love the look of this bass, it has to be one of the best looking examples of a SC Series Bass I have ever seen. If I was having a bass custom made I would find it hard to choose between African Black wood and Coco Bola.

for Jazzy...and others interested you can use as wallpaper on Iphone

Thank you Pierre I will try it now.

Hi, here is a little video with the ABW bass !!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHNanjatj5s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHNanjatj5s)
enjoy!!
-
Thanks for posting it! Nice playing, I love the chordal stuff that goes beyond what Stanley did.
It's pretty amazing how different the same model of Alembic can sound, although my theory is that it is mostly because of the player rather than differences in the instrument. However, this one was clearly worth the wait!
-
thanks Edwin, unfortunatly the keyboards was not here this day, but next time of course. We will record a demo CD in march.
Fingers, instrument and and tone controls that are done in millimeters...one milimeter of one tone pot and the sound change dramatically ... It's Alembic !
-
Fantastique!
-
Great tone and super clean technique. I prefer your sound to his.

Hey PierreYves, I'm loving the tone i'm hearing from your Blackwood Bass. If that is typical of a series bass sound then I will be more than happy if my new bass has that type of tone and clarity.
Jazzyvee
-
what new bass Jazzy ? The Blackwood bass is UNIQUE ... if you have same gear maybe not, same fingers too... lol, certainly best fingers as mines before the blackwood I was playing tenor with the series II Koa, not the same sound...
-
That clarity is definitely typical of the Series tone. The biggest difference between his bass and yours will be scale length. There's something about the short scale basses that is different and really appealing to me. That isn't to say that your new bass won't sound wonderful, it will just be different. It, too, will also be very clear, present and punchy. And it will have a B string.
So, this brings up the obvious, a European Alembic gathering!
-
Yes Edwin, I love the short scale Series bass, it's my favourite shape in Alembic 4 string basses. I would love to get one some day hopefully in a couple of years time I will consider getting a used no greater than than 10 years old.
Pierreyves, I am the new owner of this bass Series II bass.
http://club.alembic.com/Images/395/69872.html?1261032490 (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=14644)
It was custom of the month a few years back.
I bought if from a forum member called Poor_nigel.
My plan is to take a trip to Alembic and collect the bass from there and have a trip round the workshops whilst I'm there.

Okay I remember this thread but I did understand it wil be yours !! Congrats Jazzy. Another difference between my short scale and others standard short scale is the pickups position: they are closer to the neck.
-
@Edwin: So, this brings up the obvious, a European Alembic gathering = nice idea... but how many could be ? 5-6 ?
-
I'd be interested depending where it is I guess and when.

I use now the clean & boost pedal Rodenberg 707B
This little unit I use on solo add about 15 DB at outside and some little crunchy sound, it depend how you use it. This pedal is really fantastic for all bassist's solos.

Hi
after 20 hours of studio session, I'm able to present you the first audible track:
http://soundcloud.com/schooldays/topasio (http://soundcloud.com/schooldays/topasio)
In the first part I use chorus and during the fantastic guitar solo, I use Boss octaver.
Our band's name now is School Days (very original LOL)
We wait for 4 others because we must do the mix.
Here is the project for the CD's graphism:
