This has to be one of the best sounding basses in the world !
Very Rare KOA core with Ebony top and back... Solid body not semi-hollow like most Series 1 or Series 2 basses...
I'm speechless!!!

There is nothing more ALEMBIC to me than the classic Series/Point bass.  The chocolate stripe ebony (with of all things a KOA core ! ! ! ) and the brass/gold hardware is just gorgeous.

It's amazing indeed! Every time I play it, I feel the power of this beast... It's heavy but it just feels right... It's mighty and clear as a bell.... Nobody makes instruments like Alembic; I have many basses but there is something very unique about them....

What wood are the stringers in the neck?
How much does it weigh?

It weights 10 pounds exactly... It's purpleheart ... (ebony laminates were not available back then)... But that's ok! There's plenty of Ebony in this bass any way ...
Killer!! The previous owner never used it because the batteries did not last long enough! I guess nobody explained to him about the power supply; the bass is in NEW condition...
I'm a happy man!

a piece of art, so beautiful!
just a question: what?s bad about the semi-hollow body, I think it?s part of the particular sound of the series basses.

Nothing bad about the Alembic style semi-hollow.... It's not semi-hollow like an old Gibson EB 2 bass ... That kind of hollow body kills sustain... This one enhances resonance...
However I'm very used to solid body basses... So this bass is more my kind of thing.... It's indeed a KILLER sounding bass!

Wow, just found this browsing the forum. What a stunning example!  
10 lbs it's not heavy at all considering it's solid body and with ebony top and back.

A beautiful Classic Alembic !   I would consider a Solid Series I/II rather then Semi-hollow for a custom build as I  have the lovely semi- hollow already .

Why? Do you think there's something to gain? Honestly I don't know, Roger Sadowsky is also making his top of the line models hollowed, they are lighter and the sound is, IMHO, nothing different that you'd expect from a so called 'super Fender'.

I do believe that there are both sonic differences and differences in feel of an all solid instrument. Those are just my personnel perceptions. To be sure , there are JUST differences not better or worse ___  Just different  . I can feel and hear it .

I have owned both ... Solid and hollowed series 2;
The solid sounds more aggressive , but it could be the wood also... In any case you can't go wrong with a Series 2!
If I had to choose one I would keep the solid body .

Lalo, I know what  mean by your words  more aggressive  , as in harder attack and more percussive . Yes ?

Yes Wolf! Just that in your face sound... I later on found that the Alembics made for Mark King in 1988 (one in quilt maple one in Coco Bolo), were SOLID also and had 5 piece bodies instead of the 7 piece sandwich. Just like mine....more or less the same time period! Killer basses!
