Title: Parliament/Funkadelic
Post by: flavofive on May 02, 2003, 03:20:10 PM
Here's Parliament Funkadelic's bassist (one of them, at least) "Skeet" Curtis with the Series I small body he played in 1978.

Their lead guitarist Michael Hampton also played an Alembic after about 1977 - a sweet omega Series I guitar.

Any other P-Funk fans out there?

Love 'em.  They put on the best show around.  It is extremely high energy and is not your typical set.  I've seen these guys play high energy sets that last between 3 and 4 hours with no breaks!

Oh yeah.  Big time Funkateer here.  I have a video of a Parliament concert with Michael Hampton playing that Alembic guitar.  All I can say is his taste in guitars is much better than his taste in diapers!!!

Peace,

James

I've got some of the late 70's concert tapes too, it's great stuff!  Wish I could've been around to see them in person in the 70's, but they still put on a great show.  Like dela said, they're all about the energy and feeling - you don't see that in a lot of bands today.

They're probably my biggest influence on bass... Can't beat 'em for getting in that groove.

Another Funkateer in the house. I love these guys. I got lots of Bootsy shows on tape from 1976 - 1998. Check out www.newfunktimes.com (http://www.newfunktimes.com) for links and info. I've seen these 4 hour shows as well plus a 1 1/2 hour support act (how do you tell your mom you were at a 6 hour concert).
Indeed, it's all about feeling and vibes.
I also have some 90's Deelite stuff with Bootsy and Michael Hampton where is still playing his Alembic guitar. I hope they will do one more tour together.

That Alembic sound of Parliament/Funkadelic in the late 70's is a religion to me. I'll be doing a song on the Bass Talk cd(Hot Wire Records), to be released early 2004. It is called Bonny & Clyde off the one.
Bass Regards,
Edwin Van Huik.
