Aside from some of the middle years when I kind-of fell away from the ABB, I've always loved their music.  I still try to learn something from Berry Oakley when I listen.  He seemed so free and uninhibited to be creative and let it pour out.  I'm in awe of the lines that came out of him.

Agreed Rich. Alot of people agrue that it was Oakley that held the band together.  
 
In july, there is a big outdoor concert at the city park where I live, featuring local bands. As far as I know, my band will be doing a cover of Whipping Post, so I'll try to upload a video of it after the show, and I'll make sure you get it if you're interested.

Sure, I'd love to see it.  I saw the ABB in about '74 or '75.  I wish I has been able to see them when Berry and Duane were still around, but it wasn't to be.  I play many different styles and have many influences but if I had to pick one bassist that I think showed me the most, it would probably be Berry.
I'm sure your video will be better than the camcorder video made last weekend of my band playing a few ABB/Gov't Mule songs.  The bass was literally nonexistent.  I was pushing the room through my amp and I wasn't in the PA mix at all.  People said the mix was good in the room itself but not in the video.  It was like I wasn't even plugged in.

I know what you mean Rich. It's happened to me before too. I have played in my high school talent show for the last 2 years (won both times! woo!). The first year I played, my band played a Primus song, and if you're farmiliar with Primus, you know that the bass is usually the focal instrument. Well...apparently the guy running the PA didn't know that the bass was supposed to make sounds, because I wasn't being heard by my bandmates, let alone by the audience. It was bad. Luckily though, the school didn't have the funds to hire a sound tech this past year, so we took it upon ourselves to set our sound system up. Much better. Lol.
 
I have a feeling that we'll be doing Whipping Post without an organ though. It may sound ok, but I will be surprised if it sounds GOOD.

Primus to Allman Brothers, I like it. Sounds like you guys are a well rounded band.  
Whipping Post is my favorite ABB tune, Little Martha is my other favorite.

Yeah..we try to do a little bit of everything. I've gotten them into playing jazz/fusion lately, which is pretty cool. The drummer and guitarist are big Who fans, so I always end up playing alot of Entwistle.
 
I'll have to film this concert in July and post it on here. I think you guys would enjoy it.

Absolutely, please.  If I had to pick a favorite ABB song, I'd have to make it a list of ten or so songs.  High school, huh.  I'm impressed.  I didn't pick up a bass until the summer after high school.  Glad I did, though.

I agree Rich there are so many good Allman tunes. I have at least a dozen on my Oakley Thumps that are perfect for long trips on my Harley.  
I was player in school too. SInce about the sixth grade. Sure made school fun!

Wow. I made that last post then had to run up to the bank. Turned on my Thumps amd low and behold Whippin' Psot starts playing BUT then Statesboro Blues played, almost forgot thats a favorite too. ..............

Rook is a nice guy & a heck of a player.  I saw him a couple of times w/ABB, as well as with Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks, Chuck Leavell & Jimmy Hall in Jan '82 at a small club in Roanoke, VA called the Coffe Pot.  Capacity couldn't have been more than 200!
 
Rook was one of the 1st folks I saw play an Alembic.  I've swapped a couple of e-mails with him...nice guy.
