Did he or Rhonda Smith ever play on any of Prince's studio work?? I thought I read somewhere that 1999 was all Prince and that he played everything on his releases and then used the aforementioned for his live performances. If so I don't know how good or bad Mark Brown is since I've never seen him live. Rhonda Smith is very good, saw her with Jeff Beck here in Houston a few months back. Little bitty gal with a huge sound. The basses she was playing were almost bigger than her.

Prince records alone; tours with his employees. If you do something slick unauthorized, Prince will smoke you.

He most definitely rules his purple kingdom. I never gave him much thought till I saw him on an unplugged show on cable a few years ago. Got a whole new perspective of his genius, though there is still a lot of his stuff that doesn't exactly float my boat but he is an extremely talented individual.

George Clinton loves this tune... (I do too...)

Sounded like George's P-Funk
But this was my JAM!
Those horns, oh those horns...

I saw him Mark with Prince in the early - mid 80's (Let's Work blew me away)
Andre Cymone and Rhonda Smith were also good bassist with Prince but Larry Graham was the baddest bassist I ever saw with Prince

From an Alembic perspective, I think BrownMark is worthy of a signature bass (if this is still an Alembic practice...) and here's why:
BrownMark's playing Alembic Spoilers are iconic as anybody with such honor, and yet he was seen around the world live more than anyone, many times over with the mega star artist (known as Prince...).
What bass maker wouldn't be happy, or feel a sense of honor for proven results, as picky as Prince is about the bass sound?
Therefore, if anyone I would think should deserve a signature, BrownMark would get my vote hands down for with his beloved support for the Alembic Spoiler.
Peace and Love,

Hal,
That's one of my favorites, too. I use it as my ring tone for callers that are not in my contact list. One time I got such a call while I was talking to my boss and our administrative assistant.........OOOPS!
Peace,
James
