In a display case.  Not being played.  Hanging next to a Silvertone.  Am I the only one who wants to slap this fool?

The Silvertone was Keith Richards
The Tiger was Jerry's
The Acoustic was Elvis's

Sorry for any confusion, Steve; the fool in question is, of course, Irsay.  And I don't care if Django freakin' Reinhardt played it, it's still a Silvertone; doesn't belong with an Irwin & a Martin (unless, of course, all three were David Lindley's ).

These guitar do get played on occasion. Irsay's hobby is collecting guitars. A friend of mine got to play them on a session Jim hired him for. He also owns a few of George Harrison's guitars. I'll post some pics of those.

$$$$$$ It's all about the $$$$$$

Collectibles are collectibles.  That's why people collect them.  You think a Ferrari Testarossa wants to be in a museum???

Interesting... I was thinking #13 was the Smithsonian bass, but just remembered Smitty was one of those with a letter code.

Thanks for the link Jazzy!  8)

Ran in to this a while back while looking to see if Dead and Company were going to be coming anywhere near my location this summer.

One of the more iconic guitars Jerry Garcia used over the course of his career was an axe made by luthier Doug Irwin dubbed “Tiger.” Garcia utilized Tiger as his main axe between 1979 and 1989 before moving on to a similar guitar made by Irwin called “Rosebud.” If the current owner of Tiger has his way, John Mayer may use the historic instrument during Dead & Company‘s upcoming tour.

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay took possession of Tiger in 2002 after reportedly paying nearly a million dollars for the instrument when it went up for auction. Indy Star reports Chris McKinney, who curates Irsay’s collection of rare guitars and other memorabilia, was sent to San Francisco “to let members of the Grateful Dead become reacquainted” with Tiger. While Mayer had yet to use the famed guitar as of Indy Star publishing its article, the paper reports “Irsay and McKinney are opening the door for [John Mayer] to play the instrument on upcoming concert dates.”

So maybe it will actually get played although I'm sure people will then argue whether John Mayer is the best guitarist to be given the chance to play it.

Mayer wouldn't be my 1st choice (that'd probably Herring)  - but at least it's not Trey!!!

Peter (who will be glad if it escapes it's cage)

...Not many Tiger pics with strings (and a harp!) in the background. Did they play Terrapin Station?

Thx

Sounds great, but it still sounds like Warren...and I'm not saying it's a bad thing.  Just sounds like him on a really nice guitar, instead of that crazy reverse Thunderbird he plays.  It's so nice to see Tiger out in the wild again.  Thanks for posting this!

Warren also played Wolf on 08/09/2016.  Cool stuff
