Hi Susan; glad you are feeling good (about the guitars), and hoping you are doing well. I think the tone John is getting with his Alembics is wonderful.
-
He also bought a used '75 Series I Medium scale small body guitar with a Cherry core. It's made out of 'The Zebrawood' by which all others are judged by. It has a quilty shimmer quality as well as birds eyes on it, very unusual. The board yielded about 6 instruments. I made the same guitar for Greg Lake.
-
Hello Susan ,
It is great to read your posts and watch the You Tube links. Thanks for posting those. That Zebarawood that you mention has always been a feast for my eyes as well. I also find joy in seeing Alembic instruments being played in the Lime Light and being viewed upon as the exemplary creations that they are. I wish you the best in health and in all and everything ,

These are fun (but dangerous) videos to watch! What a thrill to see (and hear) amazing instruments handled by a great player.
I saw some of these videos when I visited Alembic in August and they were the seeds that eventually blossomed into my Further G.A.S. attack.
Watch at your own risk!

Well folks, I will continue to post JCM videos here. I can't get enough of the glow of the Quilted Maple under the stage lights and the look on John's face as the guitar responds to him.
Oh yeah the sound of the guitar is pretty awesome too.
As a guitar designer and builder, it doesn't get any better than that.

The tone on that solo at 1:48 is just AMAZING!!!
Congrats guys. Talk about exposure!
-
Susan, many congrats on this 'get', just super to see a headliner grooving on an Alembic guitar, hope there's lots of fallout from it and lots more guitars going out the door.
Now, get John to hook up his bassist !
All the Best (and good to see you in PRINT !)

Could a John Mayer signature Further or Darling guitar be in the pipeline??
Hmm...........are there any signature guitar models? I guess the Tribute is an obvious one.

This was so much fun to watch! Congratulations to both John and Alembic on the sales!
I have a Series 1 Bass 75-215 that has the Zebra Wood back laminate. Sweet!!

Considering John's extensive use of the Further this tour (i.e., not using it for just one or two shows), jazzyvee has a valid question. It would be fantastic to expand the 6-string line with a 'signature series' offering.
I will admit, hearing the tones of John McVie on vinyl and witnessing the John Paul Jones body style (late 70s/early 80s) strongly influenced me in my Alembic purchases; the artist videos are a great way of advertising the Alembic product in this day & age...

Here's one of my favorite songs by John Prine
Performed by John Mayer on his Alembic Further guitar
'Angel from Montgomery' [Ziggo Dome - Amsterdam June 20, 2014]

Loved the way he was fiddlin' in the upper register. Very tasteful playing. One of my favorite tunes of all time.
-
Nice solo!

John Mayer.. All Phones Arena...Sydney Australia
https://youtu.be/4k4T3masXL0 (https://youtu.be/4k4T3masXL0)
At the end plays Further behind his back
-
While he was playing acoustic, that beautiful guitar was hanging precariously at the edge of his shoulder. !!!
-
Letting go of that Martin OM while playing the Further behind the back kinda' makes me nervous too... yikes.
All jitters aside, the guitar solo was incredible.
-
Strapkeepers? (http://www.tapastring.com/strapkeeper0605.htm) it's hard to tell because all you can see is an inch or so of black cord at the endpin. But man, they work. I've got them on all my acoustics. I think of them as a ten dollar insurance policy.
Don't ever do that, by the way. Not because the Strapkeeper might let go - nothing short of a sawz-all could do that - but because endpins aren't designed to withstand that kind of torment, especially if they're not screwed down. (Hey pa! Cletus is dangling yore ol' D-45 out the window aga... never mind!)
I was fortunate enough to watch Ed Dopera build metal-bodied Dobros. I own one. You could hang a chariot from one of those things. Just don't actually drop it, or every guitar repairman you approach is going to shrug and refer you to an auto-body experience in a bad part of town.

Besides, if you really want to impress people, play upright bass behind your back. Slap style. (Now I have a weird bass player Kama Sutra thing going on in my head. I didn't need that.) I have played behind other people's backs, however. It's way easier, but since it usually happens when they rush for the exits, it's far less impressive.

Similar to previous post but better and he turns into Peter Frampton for a bit. You have to watch entire video for full effect.
